The directors of the recent Captain America movie tried to avoid CGI as much as possible, pursuing live action shots whenever it was remotely feasible.
Star Wars is the great example (and it is May 4). The original is more gritty and real than the prequels. Shows how a lower budget leads to not only more creativity but even more reality.

Judging from their costumes, it looks like the shrub guys double as actors and God knows what else.

I agree Paddy O. The original star wars grittiness is much preferred.
