The extremely graphic image sent to one Twitter user came with the caption: "We welcome feedback, Elle. If your travel is complete, you can detail it here for review and follow-up."Hilarity ensued...
Instead of a link matching that description, however, it was a link to the photo.
It was soon deleted on the airlines' Twitter feed before replaced with an apology.
"We apologize for an inappropriate image recently shared as a link in one of our responses. We've removed the tweet and are investigating," it read.
Right now CNN is on the phone with @USAirways. "I heard you found a plane?"

Until now I didn't understand how finding a black box would lead them to the plane.
@bagoh
Too funny!
What is most mysterious is how that plane ended up there with no landing strip. It makes no sense.
Ping!
I think the plane navigated by odor!
Of course, there are a lot of fish out there in the ocean.
Perhaps the reason we can't find that plane is that it landed in the wrong hole!
An interesting way to say, "Up yours".
Instrument flying is hard.
Can I use IFR or VFR to land there?
"Why don't you take your airplane and fly it up your... no, wait."
planile dysfunction
Deb, great pic.
Was this a real USAirways tweet, or was it, er, hijacked?
The Boeing 777, with thrust ratings ranging from 74,000 to 115,000 from each of it's two engine can perform at top thrust for hours on end.
Now who can compete with that?
That tweet is funny.
Fly the VERY friendly skies....
