They speak an interesting Germanic dialect. I can't quite place it. It's not exactly Swiss German or at least the sort spoken in north eastern cantons.
Interesting how the the houses were just out of the avalanche flow (except for that one out building). My guess is grandfather or great grandfather knew what path avalanches took in the past and sited those homes accordingly.
