"By no means is this a way to glorify it or get attention, I'm telling you because it is time for me to be honest."

"A Pennsylvania teen accused of killing a man she met on Craigslist told a local newspaper she and her husband did kill Troy LaFerrara -- and dozens of other men."
The Daily Item in Sunbury reports that Miranda Barbour, 19, said in a jailhouse interview that she considered sparing LaFerrara's life.

"I remember everything," Barbour told the paper, adding that the November murder was the couple's first. "It is like watching a movie."

She said she planned to let LaFerrara out of her Honda CRV but "he said the wrong things."

Barbour said she told LaFerrara that she had just turned 16.

"He told me that it was OK. If he would have said no, that he wasn't going to go through with the arrangement, I would have let him go."

She said he was not supposed to be stabbed, just strangled by her husband, Elytte Barbour, but "things got out of control."
I was curious as to what classification of crime these two alleged criminals would fall under. Which category, or combination of categories, do you think they fall under?

Based on the patterns of their murders, multiple killers are classified into three basic categories -- mass murderers, spree killers, and serial killers. Here is the definition of each category of multiple killers:
Mass Murderers: A mass murderer kills four or more people at one location during one continuous period of time, whether it is a few minutes or over a period of days.

Spree Killers: These murderers kill two or more victims, but are more than one location. Although their murders occur in separate locations, their spree is considered a single event, because there is no "cooling off" period between the murders.

Serial Killers: Serial killers murder three or more victims, but each is killed on separate occasions. Unlike mass murderers and spree killers, serial killers usually select their victims, have cooling off periods between murders, and plan their crimes carefully.

Serial killers.

Strong component of sexual thrill seeking here. Seems the girl and her companion were luring men with promises of sex.

We don't really know yet whether the girl's claims re her body count are true.

They seem like classic serial killers, if LaFerrara is like the other victims. Their MO seemed to be attract men looking for underage women, she would function as live bait to lure them to a location, and he would kill them.

It's a trap!

It's also, probably, a lie.

Exactly how many bodies has she led the police to?

One - hers.

But but but - she's a victim!

Funny exchange over at TOP.

Our dominatrix heroine just deleted almost every response to a topic because commenters refused to play out their proper roles as students supplicating before the teacher.

"I'm more important than you!" is her motto.

She gave me a failing grade. Oh!, the humanity!

Wouldn't it be more productive to go lecture our South Central denizen on how to become a productive member of society?

Or maybe drink a quart of rotgut - the results are all the same.

Why is thou shalt not kill the second commandment? Because it is in all our hearts. To kill. Doubtless there have always been creatures who kill often, without remorse and without consequence. And since we now live in a pagan society there is little in the way of proscription. Heck, it's probably hate speech to confront a devil worshipper. So what has always gone on continues and probably with greater frequency.

How about stupid killers?

They left a trail on the Interwebz a blind man could follow.

You like getting kicked in the head?

PS This broad was in the same racket as John Murrell's mother.

I laugh about that shit.

Irritating Teach is fun. Don't you remember that from high school?

Althouse is hilarious when she does her teacher disciplining the unruly students bit.

That's her blog at its best.

I blame in part feminism that there are more men lost men out there available to be prayed on like this.

One fact that points to her lying is that she said she's been doing this for six years.

She's been publicly offering herself up for sex & then having her accomplice murder these total strangers since she was thirteen?

I guess it's possible, but it strikes me as unlikely. If for no other reason than why would a grown man trust a teen-age girl to keep her mouth shut about multiple murders?

I don't think that came from a credible news report. I think she started having sex with strangers at 13 but I don't think she said the killing started then.

There's also the fact that the only element of her story that anyone has checked out so far -- the abortion -- turned out to be a lie. Also, literally every one of these "I was in a nation-wide satanic cult" stories, going back forty years or more, has turned out to be fake.

People are overly influenced by TV. All of these serial killer CSI shows glorify this behavior and make it seem cool to stupid people.

Trooper York said...

This story closely tracks the plotline of a show called "The Following."

It used to be that kids pretended to be Wyatt Earp or Matt Dillion or even Mike Hammer.

Now they all want to be Hannibal Lecter.

Trooper York said...

Even a humorous innocuous show like "The Mentalist" built it's first seven seasons on a serial killer plot.

Enough already.

Why can't we have "I Dream of Jeanie" and "The Munster's" instead of this serial killer crap!

Trooper York said...

Of course you have to change the plots little for 2014.

Jeanie would have to be a dude and it would be gay stuff going on.

Herman Munster would be the Secretary of State.

Crap. Nevermind. Serial killers are not so bad. Carry on.

Yeah, no. I've read two or three articles so far, and it sounds like classic "talk to a lunatic, get random lunacy" confessional spew. There was another guy spider-trapping via Craig's List in Ohio who set out to kill men for their stuff, and had a pretty iron-clad plan. He managed to kill maybe four men before it all went sideways and he and his accomplice got caught. No way a teenager racks up that sort of legitimate body count, let alone all that goofy crap about "satanic cults". If anything's a marker for "load of crazy-making bullshit", it's that old stand-by, "satanic death cult".

I don't think that came from a credible news report. I think she started having sex with strangers at 13 but I don't think she said the killing started then.

She's been giving interviews to the local rag. That was direct from her mouth. It's either honest crazy, or some ham-handed attempt to squirt ink, squid-style, and hope to squirm loose from the actual crime.

I've got a guy in the next office over who lives fifteen-twenty minutes up the valley from Sunbury. There's a quote in one of the local papers that sums it up: 'People in the area aren't bad, she said, but “people bring their bad here.”' The two killers had lived in the town for all of a month, and if they had any local ties, the locals aren't talking right now.

I agree they are serial killers. I read about a couple like this who operated around the Alabama/Georgia state line in the 80s. They used CB radios to lure victims into contrived sexual meetings in which they pretended not to know each other. I don't remember how many they killed, but it was more than a few.

Serial killer do funny things. Sometimes they just don't think things through.

rcocean, the guy in Ohio had a teenager helping him with the murdering part of his scheme. But like I said, it fell apart fast, he didn't too far into his planned get-rich-quick spree.
