April, The Springs has about 7 or so days of scheduled maintenance a year. YESTERDAY was one!! With that luck I should avoid Vegas. So, I went to a great restaurant called The Pullman. Eaten there a couple times previously. I had goat for the first time and loved it. I'll eat well in Vegas. Plan on eating @ Batali's place in the Venetian.
I love this performance because you see the young playful Elvis, that made the young girls swoon. He was really very cute before he became a giant swollen blimp.
Unchanged Melody shows off his voice, but his breathing in that bothers me. I'm with DBQ, Are You Lonesome Tonight is the one I truly love.
My grandmother dragged me to all the Elvis movies and I wasn't about to like anything she did. Not until the episode of Designing Women, when they visit Graceland, did I discover him for my own.
The remarkable thing about Elvis is that nearly every song he performed is considered by some to be his best song. I can't think of any other singer like that, with the exceptions of Sinatra and Bennett, who weren't rock singers.
Personally I'm partial to "A Little Less Conversation", but honestly I don't know all that many Elvis tunes. I grew up in the post-Beatles era, and Elvis was mostly relegated to oldie's stations for people born fifteen to twenty years (or more) before I was.
I was 12 in '56 when I first heard Elvis on an AM radio in an Iowa farm house down in the basement where my parents couldn't hear. It was Hound Dog and I thought it was about a dog and, for all I know, so did Elvis. Hearing it back when Rock was being born was such a thrill I felt like I was doing something wrong by listening to it.
I don't know if it's the best but All Shook Up is definitely my favorite.
My opinion is worth something because I've made the pilgimage to Graceland, stood by the grave, boarded Lisa Marie, had an Elvis chili-cheese dog and fries from the cafe.

Here's Chuck Berry's version. Damn good.
Heartbreak Hotel
Weren't they mostly all "other people's songs" with Elvis?
Here's mine -- his rendition of Unchained Melody
Viva Las Vegas.
"In the Ghetto!
Pretty good tune, but I've got to go with Heartbreak Hotel.
My favorite Elvis stuff, however, if his hymns. Buy "Peace in the Valley." 3 CD set. It's great.
Hey Spinelli - How were the hot springs?
I like the Elvis footage. The cape. Love the cape.
Best cover of H.B. Hotel was by "The Vandals" (circa 1982). The modified lyrics would make even Sixty Grit blush: link
This is the best Elvis song ever.

Son of a bee.:(
I've never been to the Pullman, but you're not the only one to rave about it. You'll have better luck in Vegas.
Best song by Elvis.
Are You Lonesome Tonight.
Welsh BTW
:-D
Mystery Train is very good... I don't know for sure if this is true, but, I believe it must have inspired Folsom Prison...
Both songs are from the early 50's

Love Me Tender?
Another good one.

Here is the more traditional version
Elvis unplugged.

I did usher at an Elvis concert in '74 or '75.
I wouldn't argue too hard with "Heartbreak Hotel", but my pick would be "That's All Right".
This, is the best Elvis song ever --
Such a Night.

He was a magnificent performer.
I'll go with Are You Lonesome Tonight, too.
His rendition of Blue Moon isn't terrible, either. Features a rare Elvis falsetto.
Suspicious Minds. It could be the theme song for this blog.

Hound Dog was Elvis at his best.
