I have also always seen affirmative action as a form of reparations and have been unclear how it metastasized into the much broader system that we currently have. I also have come to question how much longer it can remain intact in its present form. I am endlessly impressed by the depth of hostility many people feel towards blacks that has much of its focus on the effects of affirmative action. Ironically in my view given the modest benefits they in particular have received from these programs. For university admission I think the Texas system is more workable in the long run. The top 10% of every high school get in.
The country is clearly stratifying with the promise of the American Dream steadily dying. To avoid this there have to be mechanisms to foster social mobility or we will increasingly resemble England and India. Permanent underclasses do not make for healthy societies.

So they're not reparations - no matter how you see them.
How many of you idiots are going to use the "Crack seems to be saying" bullshit? I speak for myself. Don't go on what I "seem to be saying" - dot make shit up to criticize - use my words.
"As for the suggestion, it's funny. But humor aside, I don't think people realize just how devastated the South was after Union victory,...People forget that much of America's wealth wasn't built until much more recently than that."
It seems to have impressed these lame brains but - other than the white tactic of changing the subject to concern for the abusers again - what does all that air have to do with what this country did to black people?

Point to where I do this. I'm not interested in interpreting your views. I think you should have a forum to express your views without having to deal with idiots like ST shouting you down but your views are your responsibility. I disagree with much of what you have to say.

Other than explain that, all the wealth that slaves had built up, was destroyed - the same wealth from which you'd like to take your reparations? Nothing.

Since Crack isn't around to take abuse, all I have to add at this point is that Ritmo's comments on this thread have been excellent.
Ritmo just scored a hat trick. I used that metaphor as a kudo for Ritmo and to bust Trooper's balls.
Why would that bother me?
I have always said that Ritmo is a very intelligent guy who has a opinion worth listening to even if you don't agree.
Oh I get it.
I hate hockey.
AReasonableMan,
