Peace

Peace, 2001. Evan Izer & Alice Wu.
Gelatin-silver print, 11" x 14", edition of 5.
© Evan Izer & Alice Wu

This artwork came about as the result of a dream of myself as a fat John Lennon.

Made in collaboration with my brilliant and beautiful friend Alice Wu in 2001 in New Haven, Connecticut.

Rest in peace, John, 33 years later.

And so, dear friends, you'll just have to carry on. The dream is over....

As Larry the Cable Guy would say,

"Now, that's just funny."

His little asian friend looks like a snack for him.

You two look far better than hippie John and his artless hack wife.

The Beatles though the 80's would have been interesting. I wonder if they would have succumbed to big hair and spandex?

This post just makes me feel old. I remember right were I was when the news of Lennon's death arrived. Standing outside in the cold in grade school, waiting to line up for the pledge and go in. Lisa P was crying. There were a lot of us little Beatles fans.

I remember where I was when I heard it first. I was in Pennsylvania, living at home, unemployed, broke, probably collecting food stamps to help out my Mom who was supporting me, and I was slowly saving money up to make a totally uninformed, and desperate jump to California. A few months later I had my $350 saved and went for it. "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." It's also what happens when you act on them.

Bravo, Palladian.

You just reset your artistic genius clock back to 2001 in my book.

Are there earlier manifestations?

I was working a night job during college in Madison, WI the night Lennon was shot. I heard it as a radio bulletin.

I was working second shift at a mainframe manufacturer in Santa Clara. We heard it on the radio.

As a yute I liked the Beatles, but was really more of a Stones fan, and by 1980 I was over John Lennon - but still, getting murdered on the streets of NYC is not something I would have wished for him. Or anyone else, for that matter.

Indeed.

Palladian, Yoko is feeding him too much white rice and not enough sashimi.
