I don't care enough to look up what the murder rates in SA are, but the last time I checked it made Chicago look peaceful. But no American liberal will ever care about black on black murder rates, here or elsewhere. They will instead celebrate someone like Mandela who fits their ideal of a man of peace and prosperity, which seems identical to oppression and death.

So it goes.

Of course it means nothing to the beautiful people, but it wrings my heart when I see pictures of the Afrikaans children whose parents don't have enough money to afford the fortress house in the gated community. They are the most naked vulnerable children on earth.

Incidentally, last night was The Problem With Racism Night on Turner Classic Movies (TCM). The Defiant Ones, A Raisin in the Sun, In the Heat of the Night and Glory, one after another. This was completely coincidental, as I had seen those movies on the schedule last weekend. So unless they had foreknowledge....
