Obama claims 'more than 100 MILLION Americans' have enrolled Obamacare

"President Barack Obama told a conference-call audience of progressive volunteers on Monday evening that 'more than 100 million Americans' – in a nation of less than 314 million – have successfully signed up for health insurance via the Affordable Care Act."
A weary-sounding Obama made his gaffe during the call, hosted by Organizing For Action, the nonprofit successor to his campaign organization Obama For America. The group claimed 200,000 people managed to listen, aided by an RSVP process that included a fundraising solicitation.

'I just wanted to take a few minutes to speak to everybody because you guys are the ones who are in the trenches, day-in, day-out,' Obama said, complaining of 'misinformation' that has circulated about his health insurance overhaul law.

But 'problems with the website ... have created and fed a lot of this misinformation,' he admitted.

Boasting of his administration's skill in encouraging taxpayers to buy health insurance policies through public marketplaces, he claimed that 'in the first month alone, we've seen more than 100 million Americans already successfully enroll in the new insurance plans.'

That number is att odds with reality, but Obama didn't skip a beat or make any effort to correct himself, and his next comments did little to clear up the mistake.

He was extrapolating to estimate the count for all 57 states. That includes some big ones like South Idiotania and West Barackatopia.

@Pogo

This is an all things Ritmo post.

It's saboteurs, not sabateurs.

Your misspelling proves you are a retard and your opponents are right about everything.

Please never post again. This is the internet, and deep scholarship and perfect spelling are required.

No, he was including all those states won when Richard Montgomery, Benedict Arnold, and Daniel Morgan conquered Canada in 1775.

Or was it all the Mexican states we bought in the Gadsden Purchase?

Maybe he's counting on that old Democrat Party trick: signing up the dead.

If you wonder why the same failing schmucks and policies never go away:

"While the survey found a slim majority believes the law will do more to hurt than help the nation’s health care system over time, it also found the statute retains majority support among key elements of the modern Democratic coalition, including minorities, college-educated white women, and young people."

Just for fun, let's say Obama is absolutely correct. 1 million have enrolled, and by enrolled, I mean selected their plan, placed in the cart, and have paid for it. Let's assume for a second all that is true.

We have this from Henry Chao's testimony to Congress:
"REP. CORY GARDNER: Well how much do we have to build today, still? What do we need to build? 50 percent? 40 percent? 30 percent?

HENRY CHAO: I think it's, uh, just an approximation, we're probably sitting somewhere between 60 and 70 percent because we still have to build...

GARDNER: Wait, 60 or 70 percent that needs to be built, still?

CHAO: Because we still have to build the payment systems to make payments to insurers in January.
"

Those 1 million people will pay their premiums to the US government, and there currently doesn't exist a system for that money to get to the insurance companies that will pay the medical bills. If a private business was run like this, the CEO would be facing criminal fraud charges. This is worse than a ponzi scheme.

Michael Haz said...

100 million is like 27 in Chicago election terms.

Leland said...

Ack, and I only gave him credit for 1 million, and he did claim 100 million. Yet the actual numbers of enrollments (people who managed to put a plan in a cart) is only 100,000.

Look this guy is a lying sack of shit.

No lie is to big for him.

But his lapdogs and lickspittles will protect him to the bitter end.

It will be a bitter end.

With millions of formerly insured people with no insurance.

You guys do know do know how this is going to play out, don't you? The press will beat up on Obama for a while, to establish their fierce neutrality, and then, after a decent interval, heart wrenching stories will begin to appear about people who were saved from dying from cancer thanks to Obamacare.

Obamacare isn't going anywhere. Game over.

Shouting Thomas said...

@AReasonableMan

Yes, you are probably right.

The joker in the deck is how far Obama will go in lying and violating the law.

He thinks he has a gold plated Get Out of Jail Free card, i.e., his black skin.

We'll see how that plays out.

Amartel said...

Oh, well then, he's "weary."
Buck up, Buttercup.
And stop "misspeaking" so much.
The first real fight of his entire state-subsidized, media- manipulated, dog-wagged life and he's already "weary."
Boo fucking hoo.

That is my biggest concern. It should be liberals' concern too. Presidential Overreach.

Trooper York said...

I think you are wrong ARM. Obama is like Nixon. He will overreach.

I just hope their are some patriots who will stand in his way as he usurps the Constitution.

Look at his latest overreach. He just said that he was going to tell people not to obey the law. His law that he passed. He said the President can unilaterally tell people to not obey the law without reference to Congress or the Courts.

I just hope he will step down when he term is over.

I put nothing past him.

It is the most dangerous person to have ever have held the office of President.

He is a truly lawless individual.

Trooper York said...

The website will not work by November 30th. He cannot force insurance companies to issue illegal policies that violate the Obama care law. Millions upon millions who formerly held insurance will lose it. Or be unable to afford the new policies. The young and healthy will not sign up and the old and sick will see the premiums skyrocket to the point that will be unable to have insurance.

What will this criminally incompetent reckless liar do then?

Trooper York said...

Maybe like Oprah he will just wait for all of us racist old people to die.

bagoh20 said...

But A.R.M., I call your heartwarming story and raise you some stories of people who die of cancer because they lost their insurance at a very inopportune moment, suddenly and unexpectedly, because they were lied to.

Bad news trumps good every time. Gin.

bagoh20 said...

Oh it will be. Just wait. Hell, it was all the rage just a few years ago when a far more restrained and constitutionally respectful President was in office.

Why, because the death panel slipped them some Zyklon-B to kill them off quicker?

Even now, we're seeing the heart-rending stories of people who will die because ChoomCare priced them outv of insurance.

Obamacare isn't going anywhere. Game over.

Only for the Democrats.

And, guess what?

They're the ones who will kill it.

Remember Syria? Must not be going so well since we're being distracted by ObamaCare.

JAL said...

And so what does happen to those people who have had their policies cancelled and they don't have insurance in place January 1, 2014?

They have 41 days to get it and pay?

Only there is no way for the payments to be made to the insurance companies? (See comment above.)

Great. /s

edutcher said...

And part of the website that isn't done yet (about 40%, in fact; the rest just doesn't work) happens to be (are you ready?) - PAYMENT!!!!!

Even if everything else works, there's no way to arrange payment.

Now that's free healthcare!

Until the IRS comes knocking, of course.

~74 million of the ~ 314 million are children 17 and under.

So is he counting the kids too?

Still. He does this All. The. Time. and the media covers for him.

GWB and SHP were excoriated for how incredibly stupid they are for far less.

We have someone in the White House who believes that when he speaks it doesn't matter what the mouth says ... He is Awesome and He Won.

Leland said...

So I see the APretenseMan came in and stirred the pot by pronouncing his fantasy. The press can continue to give the President his 15% polling bonus, but they can't handle the economics.

100,000 people have managed to put a plan into a cart, and that's the bloated number from the administration. Let's say they increase that number by an order of magnitude in November; the net loss of insured Americans will still be so high as to need 5 more Novembers just to break even with September 30, 2013. Open enrollment ends in March.

So far Obamacare has only added to the number of uninsured. The 1/100,000 person the media covers that was saved (by Obama!) will be vilified by the 10 from each million that lost their insurance.

And so far, we're only talking about the pretty cover of the book. The inside story is the government can't pay the insurers. How long you think those insurers will pay medical bills when they aren't receiving the premiums? How long do you think hospitals will stay open for Obamacare patients?

And we've only touched on what we know is absolutely true now. The fact is, most of us predicted this would happen in 2010, and we were told we're unreasonable. Yet, our worse predictions were better than reality today. We have other predictions of how Obamacare will play out in terms of treatment, and these scenarios aren't peaches and cream either. There's only a few ways to artificially lower healthcare costs, and none of them will work long term. Something that can't go on forever, won't.
