On Monday, leading media outlets including China Central TV, the People’s Daily, the Global Times, the PLA Daily, the China Youth Daily and the Guangmin Daily ran identical, top-headlined reports about the “awesomeness” of the People's Liberation Army navy’s strategic submarine force.
“This is the first time in 42 years since the establishment of our navy’s strategic submarine force that we reveal on such a large scale the secrets of our first-generation underwater nuclear force,” the Global Times said in a lengthy article titled “China for the First Time Possesses Effective Underwater Nuclear Deterrence against the United States.”
The article features 30 photos and graphics detailing, among other things, damage projections for Seattle and Los Angeles after being hit by Chinese nuclear warheads and the deadly radiation that would spread all the way to Chicago.
China’s sub fleet is reportedly the world’s second-largest, with about 70 vessels. About 10 are nuclear-powered, and four or more of those are nuclear ballistic submarines capable of launching missiles.

A blind-man could have seen this coming--or anyone who knows how to read and has followed the open-source news the past decade--let alone mil/intel types. And the PRC--but especially the PLAN--are EXTREMELY sensitive to even minor changes in power relationships. Power is the only thing they respect. As Obama continues to gut the armed forces and the PLAN continues to build apace expect even more jingoistic and bellicose statements to be issued as they are even further emboldened..
Of course all this is a feature, not a bug, to the Semantha Power types of the Obama Admin--and obviously to Obama also as he both installed them and listens to them

We all know from experience that as soon as they grab the lever to launch a missle that the damned handle will break off, and they will just have to throw that cheap junk away and go get a new one, which will do the exact same thing. And no refund will be forthcoming.
If they want to damage the U.S., they only have sneak in money to support leftist candidates. It's far less messy and funny as hell to watch Democrats build U.S. government products that rival the Chinese in total crapability.

Ok, Ok, I realize that part of this whole "process" is to elicit "hip" and "highly intellectual" Seinfeldian comments, but this subj matter ultimately involves matters of life and death. Eric the Bat, et al miss the point ENTIRELY by trying to look (or "present" to use the au currant borrowed medical term) uber "hipness"/ insouciant "terminally cool."
I don't believe it is an attempt at hipness or cool, necessarily. More like utter frustration that most of our political class could give a shit less, or indeed, as mentioned above, feel self-satisfaction at events such as these. May as well get a joke out of it when there is nothing you can do about it.

It seems the only time the Obama administration shows any military muscle coincides with Obama's low approval ratings. Boom - a bad guy in some far off middle eastern nation is taken out with a drone. Not that we shouldn't trust the press with verification. I'm sure they checked it out.
virgil, the Chinese have had The Bomb for fifty years. I forget how long they've had ICBMs, but it has been a while. So (a) there's nothing really changed about their capabilities and (b) we're not likely to do anything about it anyway, such as sink their subs. And (c), we have a political leadership that has more in common with Mao than the Chinese leadership has in common with Mao, ideologically speaking, so why worry about what THEY are doing?
Bill Clinton gave the Chinese our nuclear weapons secrets. The Chinese are doing prep not so much for Taiwan, although that will happen, but to attack Japan.
Meanwhile, Obama has dismissed 197 top American military officers - Admirals and Generals - during his presidency. Americas' military has become weaker, while China's has become stronger.

Hey man, they are threatening to nuke MY house. I live closer to those subs than anyone in here. If I can laugh at it, you can. Besides the Chinese and their warheads don't give a shit if you laugh or cry about it, but it matters a great deal to me which one I do.
Besides as a long-term user of Chinese products, I expect that when they launch a missile the sub will sink and the missile will land harmlessly in my backyard where I will use it as a barbecue and glow in the dark water feature to the cheers of my drunken guests. Hahahhaha!
