"Decades after he became notorious, subway vigilante Bernhard Goetz has made headlines again."
As 1010 WINS’ Carol D’Auria reported, Goetz, now 65, has been charged with the criminal sale of marijuana he is due back in court on December 18.
Police said he sold a small amount of marijuana to an undercover police officer on Friday. They met inside Union Square Park and walked a short distance to 15th Street and Fifth Avenue, where the pot and the money exchanged hands, police said.
The marijuana was valued at $30.

Nobody should be arrested for selling pot.
This shit has entered a weird legal limbo now that legalization is approaching.
Yea, great job there Dick Tracy. Just what I'm worried about - a 65 year old selling $30 worth of pot. Now I feel safer. How much did and will this little game of cops and robbers cost us with cop time, paperwork, clerks, courts, judges? I'd be willing to bet that cop observed a couple more serious crimes take place which he ignored while he was pursuing this easy collar.
Anybody sold me $30 worth of pot I'd be grateful.
If you like your pot...
Bernie might lose his CCW now.
Balance that against making the subways safe for a few nights.
I'd be interested in reading about the circumstances of the bust. Bernie Goetz looks to be the world's most unlikely pot salesman. Did he sidle up to strangers and just ask them if they wanted to buy some good stuff.....Parks where drugs are sold attract a lot of undesirables and go downhill fast. I think these buy and bust operations are ok, but it's extremely weird that Goetz is supplementing his retirement income in such a way.
If they valued it at $30, that means it was actually more likely $5, so maybe just a single joint.
Bags is right. How much is a dime bag worth these days?
"How much is a dime bag worth these days?"
How much you got?
A Stone, A Leaf, An Unfound Door
When you're not riding on the IRT
You're hanging around Union Square,
Or you're in your apartment looking down
On the endless tossing of the ceaseless sea --
Poor Bernie, Bernie Goetz, the man who wasn't there.
