Joe's hikes

A National Park in California. Joe said, but I forgot which one specifically. We did not discuss the closings. The guy with the backpack likes to make a point of touching snow on as many peaks as possible. Joe took the pictures, just turned eighty-years old a few months ago.

Snake in the yard eating a groundhog that drowned in the pool. Enwraps it, embraces it, makes sweet sweet furry mammal love to it, devours it.

You sick snake.

Kind of makes you wonder why it wasn't a koala bear that tempted Adam and Eve.

80 years old. Awesome.
go Joe!

What's he doing in CA? I thought Joe lived in CO?

Re: koala bear.

Funny, but terrible to think that even something repulsive can so easily entice people to betray. We don't need cuddly to sin, just opportunity.

"What's he doing in CA?"

Same as the rest of us - looking for gold.

Nobody knows what Joe really does. Ostensibly, he's a salesman. Carpets. He lives in Phoenix. But nobody knows how he gets by, nor how so well, nor why he's not already retired. Travels continuously. I overheard his best friend here in Denver say, "I don't know what he's doing making one call a day." Staying busy I suppose.

He showed me a lot of photos. I saw pictures of the dead guy. Joe had to identify him. He said, "You don't want to look at those." But I did. Joe is odd because he's so active, surrounds himself with people at least half his own age and always did. So now with all these people popping off each time I see him I think, "Is this the last time I'll see you?" Plus he drinks, whenever I see him it is so. And last night was expensive for that. The wine was outrageous, and I don't even drink. But you can't be against it, so my glass has wine in it just to make the cost of it reasonable because not it's for two.

He's odd. Perhaps going off the rails. And honestly, he's not all that bright either. His political grasp superficial. Although, after all that, his driving is fine, not like an old person at all.

Here is an example of a constant thing one deals with. Along with the urging to come to Phoenix and visit and see the place and people there and overcoming every objection generously. If I pushed the issue of not caring to fly because of it not being fun anymore, I bet I could get him to charter, actually put together a group to make it worthwhile and for the fun of it. I could do that if I were conniving and manipulating, along with all that constant generous urging, he asked me to do something simple he could do himself easily enough but I agreed and he said, "Good. I'll catch up later. Here to cover it." I didn't need anything covered, he knows that, but his hand is extended like a man greeting to shake hands, you can't just leave him hanging. I said, "Okay," put the waded bill in my pocket. It turned out to be six $100 bills far more than needed, something a loon would do, someone with dementia, someone distributing his wealth carelessly, I have seen older people do that. People known to be tight suddenly become careless, tipping nurses, giving money to people just doing their jobs, and such. He's the guy who mailed me $100 gift certificate just for making those salads. Come on! Frankly, that was frightening, the wadded bills was, now I have to return that.

That snake took care of a dead rodent. Win win, I say.

Maybe Joe is in the witness protection program, or just figures life is too short not to have fun.

At 80, nobody needs to know what Joe does. I was just curious where Joe goes for his hiking.
If Joe wants to touch some snow he needs to get the heck out of Phoenix. Though it sounds like Joe gets around w/out any problems.
Pays cash for plane tickets I'll bet - hitches a ride, perhaps?
I don't even know old Joe - but I like him. Stuffing money in your pockets - that's hilarious.
