"Ben Carson: ‘I had my first encounter with the IRS’ after challenging Obama"

"At an event in Birmingham, Ala. Monday night, former Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon Ben Carson revealed that he had received a visit from the Internal Revenue Service following his much-noted remarks at a National Prayer Breakfast earlier this year.

I had my first encounter with the IRS this year, unsurprisingly after the prayer breakfast,” Carson told an audience that at the annual Business Council of Alabama Chairman’s Dinner, according to a report from Cliff Sims of the Montgomery, Ala.-based Yellowhammer News.

BANANA Republic city..

And people worried that Nixon was ushering in the Imperial Presidency...Nixon was a piker--a total novice-- compared to Barry baby...unlike Nixon, Obama et al have ABSOLUTELY
no shame but PLENTY of unmitigated gall..

This Presidency is unprecedented in a lot more ways than the silly one that made it happen. In a dozen ways, American taboos for those in power have been violated. All deeply shameful to those who really hold the values that we all used to hold. I know I'm ashamed. Now I know why Obama doesn't believe in American Exceptionalism; it's very inconvenient to try and make it over the bar when you can just lower it.

I don't think Nixon had the option of staffing government with radical party operatives who view their party's political agenda as within their job responsibilities. It took two generations to reach this point.

The IRS and the NSA are tools for one particular party to use against Americans.

Sleep well.

Urkel and is machine have been using the IRS (which is full of his cadre) since his first day in office and I would seriously say that they have been on his side since the campaign of 2007-2008. This is what tyranny looks like folks, and it's a Marxist leftist democrat that sat in a church for 20+ years listening to black liberation theology from another American hating preacher. This is Marxist, this is leftism, this is what people like Urkel practice on a daily basis. To find a way to control you and separate you from our hard earned wealth and capital and give it away to their cronies and goons in the name of redistribution and make you like it. If I was Ben Carson, I would have ended my speech by pointing my finger right at Urkel and named him for the shameful American hater that he is and how he's declared war on America and it's citizens and is driving our exceptional nature into the tank to diminish her prosperity at the altar of global Marxist leftism.

@Marshall/

Yes, there's that along with a MUCHO greater politicized press corps full of fully committed leftist ideologues who provide political/verbal cover for virtually everything Obama and his minions do. But that's not the half of it. As someone has said, "culture" is upstream from "politics"and we've had some forty years of a 24/7/365 drum-beat of a cultural assault on all things conservative by academia, Hollywood, TV, magazines (even Redbook, and House & Garden for godssakes) NPR, you name it. Our schools K-12 plus the universities are little more than leftist propaganda mills and, of course, 18-yr-olds now have the vote which they didn't previously so that major change provides the left with a huge base all too readily susceptible to the blandishments of the left. So...you're right, Nixon, unlike Obama, didn't have the benefit of 40 years of "battle-field prep" to seize cultural control and soften up the public.

Why bothering lowering the stick, just throw it away and keep moving the goal posts.

I had my first encounter with the IRS when I forgot to staple something to my return. Must be cause I voted for Bush. No, that's not right, it happened before 2000. Must be cause I voted for Anderson. That's it.

Carson looks my age or older. I think he is a lucky guy to "encounter" the IRS so late in life.

A visit from Solly an' da boyz.

If we ever get rid of this crowd, the IRS will never live it down.

bagoh20 said...

The chances of getting a visit from the IRS are so remote for any individual taxpayer that it's just beyond reasonable that it would just happen by chance to someone who embarrassed the President shortly before that visit. It's possible, but so is winning the lottery.

I wonder if Ben Carson wrote that speech. I wonder if Ted Cruz wrote it for him.

With "odds" of an IRS audit between 3 and 12 percent, over a 30 year career as a highly paid neurosurgeon you could place a confident bet on Carson getting audited at least once.

No matter what politics he had for breakfast.

The insinuation that Carson was targeted is just another smear of Obama and is probably racist in origin.

If Obama's lawlessness had been called right at the outset there's a good chance he wouldn't have gotten to the point of so cavalierly sic-ing the IRS on "enemies." That's not to say the impulse to do it wouldn't be there. But had he been slapped hard for earlier transgressions he might at least have been "restrained." Remember in the government bailout of General Motors, the stiffing of bondholders in order to payoff the UAW? Total disregard of contract law. Where was the judiciary? Where were the Republicans who should've been, at the least, screaming bloody murder? Maybe that's not a very good example but I'm sure each of you can come up with numerous better examples of the way those sworn to uphold the law were virtually silent in the first two or three years of his reign. Why under those circumstances, wouldn't Obama have been emboldened to follow his natural bent?

bagoh20 said...

According to Forbes: "If you had non-business income of $200,000 to $1 million, you had a 2.5% chance of audit..." There was no data for the chances right after offending the President, but that would be a useful metric.

bagoh20 said...

BTW, 2.5% per year chance is once in a lifetime odds.

ricpic -- this is what has been driving me crazy.

Why don't people DO THEIR JOBS.

We have been given a system of governance with built in responsibility and accountability checks and everyone just sat on their hands and sang la-la-la.

And who pays the price and who gets harmed?

American citizens.

And actually, the world citizens who need a shining city to encourage them.
