Syria National Coalition rejects Chemical Weapons Convention

Late Wednesday night, Gen. Salim Idriss of the anti-Assad Syrian National Coalition delivered a speech (linked below the picture) stating that the SNC rejects the turnover of control of poisonous gas. Flanked by his fellow rebel commanders he announced their:
definitive rejection of the Russian initiative to place chemical weapons under international custody.
We ask that the international community not be content with withdrawing chemical weapons, which are a criminal instrument, but to hold the perpetrator accountable and prosecute him at the International Criminal Court.
Removing the criminal tools is one matter and holding the criminal accountable is another.
Idriss also repeated his call for the US and other "friendly" nations to send arms to the Syrian rebels. On Thursday, the day of the meeting between John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov:
Syria [said] it became a full member of the convention banning the use of chemical weapons [Chemical Weapons Convention] as of Thursday but...U.N. associate spokesman Farhan Haq said "Syria will become a member 30 days after its instrument of accession is deposited." He said the documentation is still being studied.

I'm reminded of Washington crossing the Delaware, for some reason.

Why would the leader of the opposition not like the suppression of one lethal means for his enemy to attack his partisans?

The Wahabbist and sundry other Salafists can afford to buy arms for their jihadis, but the desert dwelling 8th century mentality sand apes can't design and build them. So they'd mightily appreciate if their ultimate enemies (the West) would please to step up, take the money and help defeat themselves in the end.

I keep saying folks should read, or at least scan Gen Vo Nguyen Giap's writings. He explains in fair detail how a relatively weak group, one of many other rebellious groups, can overwhelm all the others and defeat a much stronger adversary in the process. He's not guessing, he did the deed.

Or, fuck it, we can keep on thinking Tunisia, Libya, Afghanistan, Egypt under Morsi and the MB, et al are or were successes.

They were successes - Obama is getting what he wanted.

And now Assad says, "sure, we'll hand over (some of) our chemical weapons ... as soon as the US stops arming the rebels" and delivers the coup de grace of this complete humiliation of Obama on the international stage.

It certainly must be reassuring to our liberal friends when every tin pot dictator in the world feels free to give Obama a wedgie.

Obama is way awesome.

I think Sixty Grit has it about right...the "Arab Spring" has brought what Obama wanted. A collection of sundry Salafists, including Al Qaeda, has taken over....except in Egypt since the overthrow of Morsi. Teh Obamster is not pleased with Egypt. Insufficient kow-towing.

Now, the Syria National Coalition, who "demands" this and that (suppressed laughter here), was head quartered in Cairo, Egypt until Morsi's Salafist equivalent thugs fell out of power and grace. Lately the SNC has decamped for Turkey.

Whoopp-dee-do...now we can resume John (Jackhammer John) Brennan's rat line of arms from Libya (Benghazi, hee hee ) via Turkey to "rebel" groups in Syria. No never mind they're attacking Christians and secular Syrians at will.

Full disclosure: I just nicknamed D-CIA Brennan as "Jackhammer John" in memorial of "Blowtorch Bob" Komer of the LBJ days.

This declaration surprises who?

PS Have to disagree with Ari in part.

Egypt has failed by Zero's standards and, now, so has Syria.

Labia is sort of open.

Why are they all sitting together like that. It looks odd.

Of course the rebels don't want Assad to give up HIS chemical weapons (assuming that is even logistically possible). If Assad did and there was another chemical attack, it would be painfully obvious who still has WMDs and who is using them and probably who used them in the first place.

We should not be sending weapons to anyone.

Actually, think about this hypocrisy. The Government/Obama and the libtards want to take away all of OUR weapons and ability to protect ourselves against harm from any source (including our own government which is the real and probably legitimate fear that our beloved leaders have). While wanting to arm people who are actively trying to kill each other without any real knowledge of who's is zoomin' who and what the results would be.

Egypt? Lybia? Yep. Real success stories there. Let's arm the Syrian Muslim Fanatics and see what happens. I KNOW......take all the guns from the black gang bangers and the feral 'yutes' in Detroit and ship them over to Al Qaida. Hell, send the gang bangers over to Syria at the same time. Detroit might actually become livable again and who knows what will happen in Syria.

Huh? Read what I said again. You just agreed with me completely.

DBQ ... understand your sentiments about Detroit, but Chicago is much larger and has a much bigger gang banger problem. Send the Chicago "youts" guns and personnel to Afghaniland, Syria, and Libya, and both Chicago and Detroit will be improved.

Actually send them to Egypt...the military there knows how to deal with assholes...

Chicago/Detroit Thug: "Yo, I got my rights, you owe me, give it up, Yo!"

Egyptian Military: "K-BLAM! Blam Blam Blam."

C/D Thug: **crickets**

Egyptians: "NEXT?!"

Ask a muslim arab living in detroit or dearborn if he is willing to go back to the ME to fight for Jihad. If they're answer is yes, ship them off over there and never let them return.

That Syria National Coalition isn't rejecting the convention against chemical weapons, but rather the Russian's current chemical weapons handover proposal, right? They're saying the proposal doesn't go far enough, in that it doesn't call for punishing Assad:

"We ask that the international community not be content with withdrawing chemical weapons, which are a criminal instrument, but to hold the perpetrator accountable and prosecute him at the International Criminal Court."

Punishing Assad for the use of WMDs of which we have no definitive proof other than the photos (likely staged) and numbers of the dead (unverified and inflated). I'm not saying it didn't happen or that possibly Assad was not responsible. I am saying WE...JUST...DON'T....KNOW.

I know war is a gamble, but really shouldn't we have something more than a hunch,like... put all the money on red at the roulette wheel in Vegas before we start WWIII?

Of course they, the rebels, don't think it is enough. Of COURSE they want to have the world by proxy punish Assad. And of course, they say...please give us more arms. Trust us. Riiiiight.
