Equal Time?

Charlie Rose interviewed Syrian President Bashar Assad at the presidential palace in Damascus on Sunday morning.
The interview, Assad's first with an American television network in nearly two years, will air on PBS's "Charlie Rose" show on Monday, the same day that President Obama sits down with six television networks for recorded interviews.
A look back...

"In the future, it is going to be your turn too!"

"Nothing joins us together except this hall."

then a *giggle*

Dysfunction - it's hilarious.

Still... He knew his time was up.
OBama and Hillary killed Mummar, a bad man, but a bad man who was neutralized and provided an amount of stability and support in his old crazy age.
Now Al Qaeda flies the freak flag in Libya. Thanks, Obamahillary! Excellent job with that re-set button, you idiots.

(then Obama and Hillary lied and blamed 4 American deaths on a youtube video. America's media *giggled* and blamed republicans for daring to notice. How dare you point out the ineptitude and lies of the re-set button brigade.)

I'm not sad that Mofo Kaddafi is dead. He can rot, but I don't think it was a smart move when the power vacuum alternative is worse.
Wasn't Saddam tried and hung by Iraqis?

Good find on that Mumar vid, Lem. Very thought-provoking.

April, I think less smart than the power vacuum is hanging people we have agreements with out to dry. Mumar gave up his WMD out of fear when the Iraq War started.

We let Musbarak hang out to dry, too. It's a matter of the US not being trusted.

Mumar was neutralized and in no way a current threat to us. He did have his hand in the Pan-Am bombing and for that alone I'm not sad he's dead... but I think you and I agree.
Our foreign policy under the re-set button is a disgrace.

Why were they all laughing at him?

deborah said...

Gallows humor, because he was right? If they didn't laugh, they'd look worried?

Or was he coming across as a clown?

"Why were they all laughing at him?"

Timing. Mo tore 'em up with a Jack Benny pause.

Good one.

He described the situation with America in a series of questions. How could it be that Saddam, a one-time friend of America end up being hung? The entire Iraqi leadership hung? (not true, but eh, rhetorically it works).

It does appear as if the America hung Saddam by directing the Iraqi new to governing directly. He named personal relationships, so how cold t be? Most confusing from the pov of dictators, this straight up schizophrenia that characterizes American politics and so characterizes American geopolitics.

America is mental. That is how to understand America. It answers all Gaddafi's rhetorical questions.

"Why were they all laughing at him?"

I don't think it was laughing at him as much as laughing with him.

The context of his statement is an inside joke. The truth, which Momar lets out, seemingly inadvertently, is that they, the Arab states, hardly ever agree on anything. Momar lets the cat out of the bag, as it where, by saying that the only thing that brings them together is the building.

Watch the video bearing that context in mind and see if that makes sense.

I'm guessing myself.

When he says "nothing is joining us together, except this hall", he called the summit a sham... a joke.

Momar was not only frustrated by a seemingly unsteady US policy, he was MORE frustrated that Arabs never spoke with one voice.

He lamented that they were not ArabCentric.

Go find some picture of Qaddafi as a young man, when he first seized power. Then tell me who he looks like.
