Open Thread: Something For Everyone

From 1993, back when MTV was still good:

I still crack up thinking about Beavis and Butthead ad libbing to that one.

I lived in Europe from 1990-93 and was away from American Cable TV for about that long. When I checked back in, there had been a Gulf War, Bill Clinton was President, and Beavis and Butthead had taken over MTV. After an initial WFT reaction, I was hooked.

I don't think I could jinx it at this point.

I lost track of MTV for much of the 90s (didn't have cable).

But late 80s MTV was seriously awesome. 120 Minutes! Andy Warhol's 15 Minutes! The (original) Monkees TV show, etc.

When I (sporadically) checked in during the 90s, there was much to love too: e.g. Liquid Television, Sifl and Olly. And they still played music videos, too.

I was in a tavern when I first watched MTV, and my first thought was: "There goes the culture."

Watching one of their old 1985 vids (Where have all the good sperms gone?) one commenter said back in 2008: "Due to an accident in the space-time continuum this kind of music is still contemporary in Germany." I wonder if it still is LOL!

Too bad it came and went, but they were strictly a visual band--tho full ahead great--too bad they were, shall we say, not "commercial." LOL!
