The final episodes of Downton Abbey are being televised. I think there are two more left. So they are wrapping up all of the plot lines and character paths that have been the mainstay of the show the past six years.

Some of the stories are going in a interesting direction. Mr. Carson and Mrs. Hughes are married and retiring in a little cottage for some Fifty Shades of Grey Haired Sex and burned breakfasts. Daisy passes her  exams and leaves service. Possibly to live on the farm of her faux Father in Law with the footman hanging around. Thomas the gay butler tries to kill himself but lives and ends up becoming the butler. Bitchy Mary marries a dude who is a race car driver which makes a lot of sense because her first husband died in a car accident. I guess she figures lighting can't strike twice. Right.

However it is my two favorite characters who have the best end games. Mr. Molesley passes an exam and is hired as a teacher. He can leave service and teach which is what he loves to do. After spending the whole series getting shit on he has a happy ending. Hopefull he will marry Baxter the depressed ladies maid. I mean if it worked for Jeb it might work for him.

Then there is my favorite Lady Edith Crawley. She met this dude who is an estate agent which is a sort of manager of a big estate that is owned by his cousin. They fall in love and he asks her to marry him. She agrees but has a big decision to make. Does she tell him that Marigold who is supposedly the family ward but is actually her illegitimate daughter. She asks if they can take her into their home and he agrees even though he doesn't know it is really her kid. Will she tell him? Will her bitchy sister Mary tell him to try to queer the deal? Will the nasty servant Thomas tell him to really queer the deal? And when he finds out will that mean he will not want to get married?

I can't wait to find out what happens.

You forget the Dowager Grantham. She needs to die abroad because she's the only real broad. So to speak.

I'm up to season five. I sort of hate myself for watching it. The plot is so contrived, and the world they inhabit is far more a fantasy than anything on Game of Thrones. Still, it's pleasant to hang out in a world where most everyone is kindly and decent and tries to do the right thing. Frequently their nobility of spirit prevents them from expressing or acting upon their love of each other. Don't you just hate it when that happens.........I think Maggie Smith as the Countess is the most fun to watch, but the woman who plays Mary Crawley has a definite Grace Kelly vibe. Perhaps she's destined for stardom. She's not quite as flawless as Grace, but she's in that neighborhood. I've read that the actress who plays her comes from a non posh background and is the daughter of an Irish immigrant. She really acts the part of a languid aristocrat to perfection. Maybe you need to be the child of a dispossessed peasant to inhabit the charm and joy of being a landed aristocrat.

I was hoping they had a cross over episode with Mr. Selfridge, but apparently my dreams will not be met!
