Bad Moves

I just wanted to say that I think it was a bad move on Lem's part to squelch further discussion on this 380+ comment thread. I think Fr. Fox has done a remarkable job fending for himself, mostly against Meade. I mean, I think Meade was losing the argument in that thread, and it's important that people make arguments and lose them in free discourse.

Thanks for the kind words. If I understood correctly some commenters to be concerned for me, that's appreciated, but I'm fine.

Astounded; but fine.

Father just know that we respect you and thank you for gracing us with your wisdom.

Lem's blog, Lem's rules.

I would like to know, Lem, why you deleted my last several comments but, as far as I could tell, no one else's. Was it viewpoint discrimination? Or something else?

President-Mom-Jeans said...

I think the fact that Meade deleted his using "gayness" as an insult shows that he knows he will be in trouble when Althouse sees.

Screenshots are forever, Groundskeeper Larry.

I'd like to know why Meade never published my query on his wife's blog about giving Amazon proceedes to Crack MC.

Well I just wanted to say I think it was a very good move on my part to go for the Dixon chile powder from Santa Fe. New Mexico does have the best chiles ever. And Sam Arnold was right again for recommending it. To make shipping worth the bother I bought 1/2 LB each for three women here where I live and oddly they were all together the moment the box arrived so I gave it to them and they freaked the f out. Or perhaps were mildly appreciative and I exaggerated in my mind. I coated a chicken breast with the powder heavily and it turned out the best chicken breast that I made for myself in a very long time. I wanted more immediately.

Chip - have you ordered pepper powders from the Santa Fe School of Cooking? All are wonderful, the chili caribe is superb.

The support for the Wisconsin decision to which Meade earlier linked was astounding. Garage mahal, and "Titus" (Meade's stepson?) were most vocal in support. That's astounding for a 1/2 million hits per day blog.

You, on the other hand, rcommal, never disappoint.

What's this I hear about that old German broad Althouse about to become a grandmother? Congratulations to all involved.

Those characters at TOP are non-Christians intent on destroying Christian traditions and institutions.

Their appeals to the precepts of Christianity are entrapment ploys and scams.

I much enjoyed reading Fr. Fox 's responses to the increasingly bad-faith inquiries and obfuscatory hectoring by Meade.

I have no interest in their (TOP's) bien pensant narcissistic orthodoxy.

I see dark days ahead, full of ravings like theirs, translated into law and with it, a brutal fascism. The Church has weathered worse, but I do not welcome this cup.

Meade said...

Here is Shouting Thomas, commenting at TOP after I asked him why he wants the United States to be a theocracy.

Shouting Thomas said...
@Meade

Yes, in fact, I do want the U.S. to be a society ruled by Judeo-Christian tradition and law.

Does Shouting Thomas's position fairly represent American Catholicism? Or is he an outlier?

Fr Martin Fox said...

Alinsky RULE 4: “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.”

It's an iteration if the informal logical fallacy of tu quoque, and Meade's favorite, followed by citing first names, surnames, and employers of commenters, or claiming 'libel' was done.

In short, bad faith.

Here is Shouting Thomas, commenting at TOP after I asked him why he wants the United States to be a theocracy.

ST is merely suggesting that he respects the laws and traditions that we've held to date in this country. It is bad faith for Meade to suggest that ST wants the US to be a theocracy, because if you look abroad, you will see examples of theocracies. Meade is a sullivanist because some laws and traditions personally offend him and he wants to attack the very core of those traditions.

chickelit said...

I wish that betamax would come on over here... but then, I'm pretty much high as a kite on sambuca and oozo right now, so YMMV. But apparently Ms. Meade was on some sort of bad-faith rampage on Friday/Thursday, stomping about insisting that religious people don't actually believe what they profess to believe, which is enough to drive an agnostic to drink, believe you me. Well, whatever.

Be prepared for an epic blowout of idiocy this weekend. They have been drinking steadily and by all reports have been posting more and more anti-religious screeds. They always lose it in a big way on Sunday. Soon they will be here to attack and demean all religious and traditional people.

I hope that the moderators will pay attention and delete appropriately.

Thank you.

Mitch H. said...

And yet, Trooper, I'm drunker than they are, and more agnostic than they, and I still stand, to hold them for their bullshit. Because to be an atheist, is to be a sniveling child, always trembling on the edge of fighting with Daddy Deity, denouncing that mean father-figure who has put all those horrible fences and borders in the way of doing whatever wickedness comes into their immature mindes.

God may not exist, but morality certainly does, and to work backwards from that fact is the task of the philosophically minded. The legalistically minded can go to damnation as they feel the inspiration, I care not. Law isn't important, but souls certainly are.

I have no problem with you turning off comments for it, your blog and all, but I just wanted to clarify if it was you or the High Plains Grifter that deleted his comment where he was using "gayness" as an insult.

If it was you, why that comment and not all of his others?

Thanks.

Trooper York said...

I can tell you that it was the Grifter. When Lem does it you see the notation "deleted by blog administrator." "This comment was removed by author" is done by the person who made the comment.

Why in the world do you continue to address me in an open internet forum then, Fr Martin Fox?

Meade said...

Also, how can anyone here be sure you are in fact a Catholic priest? On the internet, anyone can build any fictional persona they want. Look at Trooper York. Do you really believe there is an actual person going around Brooklyn calling himself "Trooper York"? For all anyone knows, "Fr Martin Fox" is the same person who has created the personas of "President-Mom-Jeans", "Icepick", "chickelit", "Pogo", "April Apple", and even "Trooper York".

This is fallacious and is a corollary of Knoll's Law.

Since I know with certainty that I am not PMJ, Icepick, Pogo, April Apple, nor Trooper York, I know with certainty that Meade is blowing this one out his ass. In fact, the sort of doubt he's sowing here is exactly what people used to write and think about commenters on his wife's blog.

The Dude said...

No. You are not alone. The tone and writing style of the posts often change dramatically. It is very difficult to disguise your style. It takes a lot of work and the ability to be consistent in creating different on line personae. It is like Inga. We can always tell it is her no matter how many different screen names she chooses. I can't do it, so I just don't try.

. Do you really believe there is an actual person going around Brooklyn calling himself "Trooper York"?"

Why not? My husband calls me Dust Bunny Queen and I call him by his screen name. We have even, jokingly, got some engraved scotch glasses with those nom de plumes. Do we think we ARE those creations? Hardly. Lighten up Louise. Have some fun with life.

Once again I ask that Meade be deleted. His continual attacks against a Catholic priest are the worst kind of bigotry. Anti-religious hate is the standard fare for this hateful duo.

Once again I ask that Meade be deleted.

Before anything like that happens, I'd like to see his answer to this week's puzzler, from the "Reminder" thread:

MamaM said...
Why Lem's Levity isn't on the Althouse blog roll, when the other half of the duo finds this such a worthy place to hang out and "shoot the shit" is a puzzler.

Asked today by a commenter at Althouse on the "How Comments Shape Perceptions..." post:
I always wonder, where did the commenters of yore go? There were some pretty able and committed ones around here with years of comments under their belts who have vanished, never to be heard from again. Did they die? Just get tired of the whole thing? Change their handle?

The Shadow knows.

TTBurnett said...

"Did they die? Just get tired of the whole thing? Change their handle?"

Well, some entered the military. Some were retrained for useful professions. And others just disappeared in the night, loaded on cattle cars for unknown destinations.

Yes, it was the Final Solution to the Commenter Question.

President-Mom-Jeans said...

I'm Full of Soup said...

I don't think comments should be deleted. Trooper you have dished it out as good as anyone. In fact, on more thn one occsssion, you like to decree who, in your opinion, is a good guy and who is not. I remember when you would have said Meade and Althouse were the greatest. So why do you get the vapors over a comment however negative? Plenty here have taken up for Fr.Fox and they have said so vehemently. I say leave it at that and leave the comments be. And besides I bet Fr. Fox could beat the crap out of Meade if he wanted to do so.

Meade said...

How would I know you are really "Chip S." and not an impostor?

The Dude said...

Trooper, while I agree with you that Meade needs to be banned, I disagree with why.

Were he mocking a protestant minister, a "dirty prod" as you so eloquently put it, you would, no doubt be right there with him, mocking and belittling that which you hate.

Your hypocrisy is stunning.

President-Mom-Jeans said...

I wonder what Dean Raymond would think of all this.

Meade said...

Meade said...

"I'm real! Totally."

Ha ha! Now this is why I come here — for the l-e-v-i-t-y.

Ann doesn't link to this blog because of all the hatred of her expressed here. She doesn't even read this blog. Can you really blame her?

The Dude said...

But you read it to her and explain the big words, once you look them up, right?

Run along, Mommy needs her drink.

TTBurnett said...

Hmm...I washed my blogroll, and I can't do a thing with it.

Meade said...

AJ, why would I want to do that? Are you suggesting this blog is, what, some kind of Catholic church?

By the way, I suggest you read the thread in question. It's right here.

Trooper York said...

Hey I don't mock ministers. Or rabbi's. Or Iman's. I don't threaten them with libel suits or legal proceedings.

I do admit that I delight in mocking dirty Prods. But that is only because you are all going to Hell.

That's just the truth baby.

President-Mom-Jeans said...

Althouse doesn't read it you say?

Is that why you feel comfortable using "gayness" as an insult on here?

This is all making much more sense.

Trooper York said...

AJ I called for his deletion because that is what Meade does on his Mark's blog. If he want's to attack the Church and it's ministers he should do it there. I hear he is doing a good job of it.

You are free to ask that my comments be deleted if they offend you sensibilities. But as an Eagles fan there should be very little that offends you.

Chip S. said...

Ann doesn't link to this blog because of all the hatred of her expressed here. She doesn't even read this blog. Can you really blame her?

No, not if she feels that way. I haven't noticed all that much hatred of her here, but I miss a lot. Certainly there's a lot of animosity toward you, some of which is pretty raw, but it also seems like you kind of like to stir things up.

Anyway, thanks for a straightforward answer to my question.

Meade said...

Trooper York said...
"Once again I ask that Meade be deleted."

Such entitlement. And grandiosity.

And how exactly does one "delete" a commenter on Blogger? Do you mean ban? Even that is not possible.

I realize you consider me to be a troll here. And I suppose I am. But I have to tell you, Trooper, I learned the fine art of trollery from no one other than you. You were a master troll, for years, at the Althouse blog. Everyone knows it.

Your accusations of evil, you know, are nothing other than what psychologists call displacement.

Give it some thought, Jim.

Meade said...

You're welcome, Chip. I admit, I am a contrarian who enjoys stirring up conversation and controversy when I come across it. But can't the same be said of you?

I have a much thicker skin than some people have. It's pretty difficult to hurt my feelings. (Even though, as AJ, trying to con/grift people into taking his bet, pointed out — I'm easy to beat the crap out of.)

TTBurnett said...

An infrequent return to my blog to inspect my blogroll led me to notice that the embedded music for this post was deleted from YouTube. The writing could also use some improvement. So, I fixed both.
Glory be!

Trooper York said...

I ask that Meade's comments against Father Fox be deleted. His other inconsequential bleatings should be allowed to stand and be ignored. Give it the same credence you would give to a homeless lunatic peeing in the street.

The Drunken Duo seem to have overimbided because of their great victory. Instead of doing that they come here to attack religion and religious people. It is not enough that they do it behind the moat of Mordor where they ban and delete on a whim but they have to come here to continue their pernicious attacks. The place were people have come to explicitly get away from them.

They will continue flailing away in an orgy of contention and self righteous self aggrandizement until they collapse in a drunken stupor this weekend. They are in full flight right now so expect some fireworks on another "Bloody Sunday."

Chip S. said...

But can't the same be said of you?

For sure.

But at the risk of sounding grandiose, I try not to make things personal, however rough they may get. Sometimes in the heat of the moment I fall well short of that goal, but it is my goal.

If possible, I prefer persuasion to provocation, altho I'll confess to a weakness for sarc. Still, a robust argument is possible w/o getting nasty.

For example, while all homophobes may oppose same-sex marriage, not all (and maybe not even a lot) of the people who oppose same-sex marriage are motivated by bigotry. Throwing that term around loosely hasn't worked out for Crack, and I don't think it's helpful to the gay-marriage cause.

Aridog said...

Now now Trooper...you know full well that "The objections you're raising came from your mind. Examine your fears and delusions."

Oh, wait...who said that?

Meade said...

Correction:

Trooper's psychological defense mechanism is not displacement (would that it were), it is projection.

I regret my error.

I don't think that comments should be deleted, for several reasons.

First....it just makes confusion when you see people responding to a comment that has been erased. WTF is everyone talking about. This was one of the stupid things about Althouse in that she deleted Mary when, as far as I could see, the comments were not offensive.

Even offensive comments should be left, mainly because they reveal the character, or lack of, of the commenter. If you remove Meade's rude and disrespectful comments to Father Fox, you will have helped him to cover up his shit...so to speak. We can't stop Meade or anyone else from deleting comments either, but when people do delete their own offensive comments, it is often telling us something about themselves.

I prefer to see the whole pile of crap and figure out who is leaving the steaming piles.

As to being able to ban commenters, that might be nice, but as pointed out the avatars, photos give us an immediate clue as to who is posting and we can just scroll by if we are so inclined.

The Dude said...

Meade said...

I agree.

Trooper's desire for comments deletion is probably an example of the psychological defense mechanism denial. But given my lack of expertise, I'm not entirely sure. I should probably go back and read the Wikipedia entry again.

I've gotta ask how she becomes aware of any hatred expressed here if she doesn't read this blog. Do you tell her? Why do that if it upsets her?

One other thing that occurred to me (I can be pretty slow on the uptake) is that if TOP linked to Lem's, maybe some of the TOP commenters would show up here and dilute the animosity.

Just a thought.

He implied that Father Fox did not exist and was a sock puppet. His personal attacks on a Priest seem out of bounds to me but if the rest of you are ok with it than I guess that is that.

For what it's worth...

I took the liberty of copying this entire thread a bit ago, as well as the notorious thread yesterday. I did it as a precaution, most likely an unnecessary one.

However, it occurred to me that if ever there should be some dispute about what was said, one can't rely on the archive in Blogger. For one, who knows but Blogger will cease to operate as a business and their site go down for good.

But also, it occurs to me that if anyone wanted to clean up the record, that can be done by deletion.

Since there was -- to my mind at least -- some threat of legal action wagged about, I copied it all.

That is probably a matter of indifference to most, and -- God willing, to all. But if anyone were to want to do a clean-up...I saved a copy.

I don't think I'm the only one.

Trooper York said...

This I can agree with. Personal attacks that can harm the commenter or his/her family in 'real life' are out of bounds should be deleted.

I don't think that Meade's obvious bigotry and lack of respect towards Father Fox do that type of harm. In fact the measured, reasoned and intelligent responses by the Father only serve to illustrate who is the 'bigger' better man.

Chip,

That is a good thought but I doubt it would do much. About a year ago, when Althouse comments were turned off while the Blogger guys worked on fixing her broken moderation function, after Lem set up this blog (he called it something different at first, I can't remember the name), I was getting hundreds of emails every day from readers asking about the comments being turned off. I gave nearly everyone who was emailing me the link to Lem's. Early on, Ann might have even put the link in a post. Soon after, there was a lot of anger and hate expressed toward us, Lem put up a post titled, I think, "Please stop". For a while it did but gradually it returned, sometimes using code — that's where "TOP" started. Trooper and Mike Haz and Aridog and others have been riding roughshod over Lem ever since. I have to say Lem has done a yeoman's job with this blog. But even he couldn't keep pushing back all the hate.

Fact is, people don't really use blog rolls very much.

Meade said...

Sorry about that triple post. Something got glitchy.

Triple posting already?

If Lem feels this way, he oughta say something.

I doubt that he does, tho.

Meade said...

I agree. I doubt that Lem does feel that way. I was just sharing an observation from my own point of view.

I'm Full of Soup said...

Meade - I just want you to go and pretend you are arguing with Fr. Fox by protesting for gay marriage outside a mosque to see if you have the nerve to do that.

President-Mom-Jeans said...

Are you drunk enough to start letting the gay slurs slip out yet, Laurence?

Meade said...

For Sixty and Mom-Jeans, for the record:

Neither of us drink very much alcohol. She often has one glass of wine with dinner and I often have one gimlet. Rarely, once or twice a year, do we have more than one drink in a day. We never drink before 5PM and never drive after having any amount of alcohol.

You guys are free to make up any fantasies about us you wish to. But please remember they are your fantasies.

President-Mom-Jeans said...

So you were sober yesterday when you started using "gayness" as an insult, and then deleted it?

While you are correcting the record and all.

Aridog said...

... that's where "TOP" started.

Liar.

Meade said...July 22, 2013 at 11:27 PM

Don't mention our names, don't allude to Althouse or Meade, and I'll not comment. I promise.

THAT was the source of acronym "TOP" ...you promising to go away if we didn't mention or allude to you, your wife, or her blog.

Trooper York said...

The Adversary and his minions always lie. That is their stock in trade.

Meade said...

AJ,

It's not about nerve. It's about decency. I would not protest with the intent to offend outside Fr Fox's church or a mosque or any other religious establishment.

I mean, I might nail 95 emails outside Fr Martin Fox's door or something like that but that's about it.

Meade said...

"THAT was the source of acronym "TOP" "

Okay. I stand corrected.

Meade said...

President-Mom-Jeans said...

I don't know. What time was it? After 5 and I might've had a couple ounces of gin.

President-Mom-Jeans said...

So no comment on your using homosexual slurs yesterday Meade?

Nor why you deleted it?

President-Mom-Jeans said...

9:15 PM.

What made you delete it Larry?

Please enlighten all of us bigots.

Meade said...

I don't believe I deleted any comments in that thread, PJ.

President-Mom-Jeans said...

So you are perfectly okay with me widely distributing the screen shot of it then?

Since you don't "believe" you deleted it and all?

Meade said...

I thought you said you took a screen shot. Why don't you take a look at it and then quote what I said that Lem or someone deleted? Were you just kidding about taking a screen shot?

Meade said...

Sure. Distribute it as widely as you like.

Meade said...

I need to get off though. Email me that screen shot, would you? Thanks.

President-Mom-Jeans said...

So now you are claiming that it was Lem who deleted your comment and not you?

You seem to be having some memory problems, we really need to get to the bottom of this.

Why in the world would I give you access to my email address?

I'm an old fashioned guy, I think the best way to distribute them would be through the good old fashioned US postal service.

Need to support all those federal employees, after all.

President-Mom-Jeans said...

Thank you for your permission to distribute it Laurence.

Trooper York said...

I would advise against emailing anything to Mordor. They have used personal information to attack people before. You should only post it on the internet as you have done here.

They are not to be trusted.

President-Mom-Jeans said...

Good old fashioned hard copies are where it's at.

Ink on paper is a beautiful thing.

President-Mom-Jeans said...

I would like to hear from Lem if in fact it was he who deleted Meade's comments from last night, and if so why that one in particular right before he shut down the thread.

Trooper York said...

Lem is at Belmont tonight so he can't come to the computer right now.

Beloved Commenter AReasonableMan said...

As unedifying a spectacle as these threads have been I did learn something. It had never occurred to me before that Titus was Althouse's son. I have generally found Titus's posts some of the funnier ones but I suspect that knowing who the poster is in real life will reduce much of the humor.

Still, better than the Bergdocalypse.

-------------------------------

Ooh. That really does sound pretty bad. I can't believe I said that.

Is that verbatim from your screen shot, PJ? It's exactly what I said in my deleted June 6, 2014 at 9:15 PM comment?

Meade said...

I'm afraid I might have made a terrible mistake in giving you permission to distribute that, President-Mom-Jeans. It makes me sound sort of homophobic and I'm not. I love the gays.

I don't know how that happened. Are you sure that is exactly what is on your screen shot? I feel terrible. Please don't distribute that.

And Titus and all my gay friends, if you're reading this, please forgive me if you feel insulted or hurt by what President-Mom-Jeans is reporting I said.

I feel just terrible.

President-Mom-Jeans said...

Oh you can't believe you said it? I realize that you are old, and were never very smart to begin with, but begging off with convenient memory lapses isn't going to fly.

The gaystapo doesn't stand for this kind of heresy Larry, look how fast they turned on Savage.

The sheer hypocrisy you exhibit in coming on a thread to crow in the face of people about the Wisconsin ruling yesterday and then start using sexuality as an insult isn't going to go over very well.

President-Mom-Jeans said...

I am curious as to whether it was you who deleted it (as I assume, since it said deleted by the author last night) or if it was in fact Lem.

When he returns from the Belmont I'm sure we can quickly determine it.

Meade said...

Why does it matter who deleted it. Please don't distribute that as something I said.

Is what you posted at 6:50 PM exactly what I said — nothing more, nothing less? That's terrible. Why can't you just show us the screen shot?

President-Mom-Jeans said...

It matters because it just calls you out in another lie.

Lem seems like a trustworthy guy though, I have no doubt in his truthfulness.

Meade said...

I see what you mean and I agree that Lem is a trustworthy guy.

Meanwhile, can you show us the screen shot? You can email it directly to me if you don't want to put it up here.

I'm Full of Soup said...

Titus could not be any relative of Althouse. He really is too dumb and classless. In fact, I doubt anyone anywhere would admit Titus is their offspring.

President-Mom-Jeans said...

Wow, very polite now Larry, saying "please" and everything.

Not a chance I am going to expose my email address to you, as Trooper York was so kind to point out.

I'm not buying your convenient amnesia for actions you took less than 24 hours ago, and I don't think anybody else who was following that thread last night does either.

I'll wait for Lem to chime in, and then proceed from there.

I'm a patient man.

Meade said...

In fairness, AJ, Titus can be a pretty funny comic writer. And I don't find him either dumb or classless. To the contrary.

Over the years, I've actually become somewhat fond of Titus.

If he were an orphan, I would consider adopting him and trying to be a good father to him and help teach him right from wrong.

Meade said...

"Not a chance I am going to expose my email address to you, as Trooper York was so kind to point out."

Well how about sending the screen shot to Trooper York? I know he hates me but I guess I could trust him to verify that what you're reporting I said is accurate and true.

I am curious what the consensus on this is. I vote Althouse son.

President-Mom-Jeans said...

Titus is way older than Althouse's son, and the references he makes to Massachusetts are way too accurate for somebody living in Wisconsin.

I don't believe they are the same person at all.

Meade said...

Please don't write and speculate about any of my children on a public forum. They are not public persons. I am. Ann Althouse is. Say what you will about us. For decency sake, leave our children out of your discussions.

I don't even like to read people giving personal information about their own children over the internet especially in social forums. The children have no way to consent.

Meade said...

That's good advice, AJ. At least then, the responsibility for it will be all ARM's.

President-Mom-Jeans said...

Nothing more, nothing less?

President-Mom-Jeans said...

I'll make a deal with you Meade.

Come clean about what you wrote, and whether you deleted it, promise to stop trolling Father Martin, and I will consider the matter dropped as long as you keep your end of the bargain and leave him alone.

If you legitimately do not remember what you did 24 hours ago, and Lem can vouch for it, I will similarly consider the matter dropped.

Fair enough?

Meade said...

Is what you are reporting to be my true words - nothing more, nothing less - exactly accurate? Anyone who views your screen shot would see exactly those words? Yes or no?

President-Mom-Jeans said...

I learned from Breitbart to never use all your ammunition at once.

Guilty conscience Larry? Was there another sentence in there?
What are you worried about?

Meade said...

I want to know if in fact my conscience should be as guilty as you seem to think.

I'm tired of you and your game. Did you quote me accurately, President-Mom-Jeans or did you not?

Either post the screen shot or admit that you have concocted a verifiable lie also known as bearing false witness.

Yes? Or no?

If you are lying, you can go to Jesus for forgiveness. Or to Fr Martin Fox for confession.

President-Mom-Jeans said...

You would think that that man who wrote the post (and may or may not have deleted it) would not be so frantic about it.

Here you were complaining about it on this very thread.

Meade said...
Lem's blog, Lem's rules.

I would like to know, Lem, why you deleted my last several comments but, as far as I could tell, no one else's. Was it viewpoint discrimination? Or something else?

Maybe it really was Lem who deleted it. The timing for shutting down the thread and deletion makes sense, if he was trying to cover your ass.

I appreciate folks saying good things about me, and being offended about misbehavior directed against me. I really do. Thanks!

But...

Can we cool the tempers and not say and do things that we won't be proud to tell people we did?

We go online, and get into heated exchanges...and sometimes invest way too much energy and emotion...the more we have in, the more we have to see it through. I've been there; that's how arguments get so out of control, not just online, but in person.

Sometimes you have to push back from the computer, and...do something else.

Tonight, after Holy Mass, I met up with some friends at the best barbeque place in the city. In the old East End, by the river. We were there for four hours. We just had so much fun.

These are the things we need.

Just take it easy, folks.

Padre, I just deleted a kinda nasty comment, taking your wise counsel to heart. BBQ is American comfort food. A bbq brisket sandwich, crunchy cole slaw, and an ice cold beer is one of my go to meals when I need some soul mending. Having lived in KC, "I have been to the mountaintop!"

A funny thing happened tonight, at the rib joint I mentioned. We were walking out, and one of the workers said something like, thanks for coming, and I started talking to him; and I think I really surprised him by the enthusiasm I had for the place. I surprised myself. But the place really is that good.

Ely's -- that's the place, in Cincinnati.

The will of the people as measured by ballot measures seems to be getting screwed either way at present; or, that is the professed desire and demand (look at Michael Mann).
