"Ann Cryer wept when she heard the news last week"
Rotherham report 'reduced me to tears'
The really sad aspect of it is that many of these girls could have been spared.
In 2002, when she was Labour MP for Keighley, Cryer became the first public figure in Britain to talk out about allegations of "young Asian lads" grooming underage white girls in the West Yorkshire town.
This was underage sex. These girls were well below 16. The mothers said, 'We understand it's a criminal offence even if it's consensual', which I said was quite right. And they said to me, 'Why is it that West Yorkshire police won't do anything about it, social services won't do anything about it, when we have given them the names and addresses of the men abusing our daughters?' "
Twelve years on, Cryer described these women as "enlightened mothers, members of the Labour party, women who I would never in a million years have described as racist"...
Cryer is adamant that she can't have been the only politician to have heard such stories. "There must have been councillors and MPs, I think, all over the country who knew what was going on but were terrified. It's a genuine fear, to be terrified of being labelled a racist. No one wants to be called a racist, least of all someone who isn't a racist."Similar stories emerged after the San Bernardino massacre. People who saw something said nothing.

"Immigration officials prohibited from looking at visa applicants' social media"
The Hill: Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson decided against ending a secret U.S. policy that prohibits immigration officials from reviewing social media posts of foreigners applying for U.S. visas, according to a report by ABC News.
Johnson decided to keep the prohibition in place in early 2014 because he feared a civil liberties backlash and “bad public relations,” according to ABC.
“During that time period immigration officials were not allowed to use or review social media as part of the screening process,” John Cohen, a former acting undersecretary at the Department of Homeland Security for intelligence and analysis, told ABC News.
The policy's revelation comes after U.S. officials learned that Tashfeen Malik, one of the San Bernardino shooters, posted a message on Facebook declaring allegiance to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria; 14 people were killed.

Washington Post: San Bernardino victim shielded female co-worker during shooting, saving her life"
Described by friends as “a protector to all of those he loved,” 45-year-old Shannon Johnson wrapped his arms around his younger female co-worker when the shooting began and told her, “I got you.”
Johnson died in the San Bernardino massacre last week. Denise Peraza, the 27-year-old he comforted, lived.
Peraza told reporters in a statement over the weekend that she is alive because Johnson selflessly shielded her from the gunfire:

Peraza told reporters in a statement over the weekend that she is alive because Johnson selflessly shielded her from the gunfire:
Wednesday morning at 10:55 a.m. we were seated next to each other at a table, joking about how we thought the large clock on the wall might be broken because time seemed to be moving so slowly.
I would have never guessed that only 5 minutes later, we would be huddled next to each other under the same table, using a fallen chair as a shield from over 60 rounds of bullets being fired across the room.
While I cannot recall every single second that played out that morning, I will always remember his left arm wrapped around me, holding me as close as possible next to him behind that chair.
And amidst all the chaos, I’ll always remember him saying these three words, “I got you.”
I believe I am still here today because of this amazing man. This amazing, selfless man who always brought a smile to everyone’s face in the office with his lively stories about his hometown back in Georgia.
This is Shannon Johnson, who will be deeply missed by all. This is Shannon Johnson. My friend, my hero.A friend of Johnson’s girlfriend set up a GoFundMe page to cover the cost of sending his remains home to Georgia where he is from and his family still lives. They surpassed their $35,000 goal, raising close to $50,000 as of late Sunday night.

Lies And Statistics
Overheard on NPR this afternoon (paraphrasing):
For the figure cited, "mass" is defined as involving four or more people; "shootings" tallies the number of people killed or wounded by gunfire and includes the perpetrators. So the San Bernardino shooting already accounts for more than 10% of the total: 14 killed + 21 wounded + 2 dead losers = 37.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
There have been over 351 mass shootings in the US so far this year. Of these, only two involved Muslims. Should we be so worried -- if at all -- about Muslim terrorists?_____________________
