"Cold Comfort Farm" is set in late 1920's Britain. The context is that the female protagonist, Flora Poste, is a sort of urban sophisticate who moves to the countryside and encounters all sorts of ignorant bumpkins like dilettante Stephen Frye in that clip.I can't think of a better portrayal of such a character other than Daniel Day Lewis's character Cecil in "Room With A View." The archetype is supposed to be a parody of the sort of deep character that DH Lawrence romanticized around the time.

I watched that, and even with CC on I could not figure out what was going on. What is the context of that clip?
