The Assassination of Mayor Cermak
This one is for ampersand
There was a lot of controversy over who was the planned victim of the hit. Roosevelt or Cermak. Most reputable sources think Cermak was the target of the Chi town mob. The Untouchables make it seem that FDR was the intended victim but I know who it really was.

Giuseppe Zangara was the Oswald of his time. He shot Cermak on February 15 and executed on March 20. Rumor has it that Cermak tried a hit on Nitti 3 weeks before he was shot. Anton
"Pushcart Tony" Cermak was as crooked as they come in Chicago. His son-in-law, Otto Kerner was Governor of Illinois and the 1st of 4 to go to jail, although he was a federal judge at the time. I look forward to Governor J(umbo) B(utt) Pritzker keeping up the tradition of serving his next term in the hoosegow.
Ah, yes, I remember it well.
The title was The Unhired (or a similar adjective) Assassin.
If Roosevelt hadn't been there, there wouldn't have been a story.
