My old man said Carl Furillo had the best arm, until he saw Clemente. He said hands down the best. I saw Clemente throw out a Met player w/ the temerity to try and go from 1st to 3rd on a single. He let fly and then turned his back on the play walking back to his position. He didn't even watch the tag. The Pittsburgh crowed cheered and he raised his hand thanking them. It was fucking regal.
My mom liked him a lot. About 15 years ago I went to a Pirates/Indians game in Pittsburgh. It was Roberto Clemente Day, and I felt bad that during the ceremony when they were giving his family a plaque or something, the not very big crowd was not paying much attention.
When I was a juvenile probation officer in KC a woman in my unit had Satchell's daughter on her caseload. He was in his 70's but still fathering outside childs.

Unbelievable throw. Gorgeous. My dad said the best pitcher he ever saw was Satchel Paige. Now I wonder if he meant in person.
