KLEM FM

This song music made me think of Robbie Krieger and Dust Bunny Queen in the same breath. Who can tell me why?

DBQ studied guitar with the guy from The Jefferson Airplane - was that Jorma Kaukanen? I met him once, turns out we were both born in DC and had relatives who worked in Foggy Bottom, although Jorma is 10 years older than I am, making him 20 years older than CL.

Robbie Krieger was the Doors guitarist, was from Menlo Park where I think DBQ used to live, and he played that tune on one of their early records - I looked for the source of that material for years until I heard it played on WCPE one night, called the station, talked to the DJ (do they call them that on classical stations) and it turns out the DJ was the father of the bass player in the band I was playing in at the time. Small freakin' world, but dude told me the name of the composer and over time I have found that I prefer this version.

But that's just shootin' from the hip over here at the end of a long day.

What is up with all that white space at the end of that comment? Oh well...

Sixty is a winner! Here is the The Doors' studio version: Spanish Caravan and how they did it live: link. So the Doors were riffing on classical as well as Bertie Brecht.

I'll wager that DBQ knows that song on guitarra.

When I pulled up that Doors live version, Youtube put Santana's "Soul Sacrifice" in my sidebar. That reminded me that you had blogged that recently. What a masterpiece.

I took a drive and at least got something out of it --

AT LAST

Clean winter light.

Coffee colored hills, yellow stubble in the fields.

A high thin whisper of cloud.

The hubbub is over.

So quiet, so clean.

My first impression of the "Where is DBQ?" tags was that it was specious question, placed there as a hook, since finding comments left by DBQ is relatively easy as they often show up at the same place I also find numerous comments left by the questioner. Or is the real question why isn't she showing up to comment or post more at Levity?

I was about to write, "What do you think this blog offers that would interest a woman of substance? And then found ricpic's unique and apropos poem and sighed. Thankfully, I still find enough here to draw (or provoke) me into consideration and comment, despite what I see and hear as a marked (and emotionally laden tendency on the part of men who like to attribute emotionality and irrationality to women) to regard and present women as stupid bitches, silly girls, or overblown sexual objects.

I experience DBQ as a balanced and mature adult who likes to debate issues, and isnt given over to outrage, contempt or snap judgments. Is that attitude valued and welcomed here? Is the exchange of opinion desired and tolerated? What is Levity about? A place to unload? Entertain oneself? Welcome community? Invite opinion and discourse? Share something of meaning or import? All of the above?

After years of reading about the stories, thoughts and lives of others in the posts and comments they've placed online, I've reached the point where I value what comes through as real, good, and honest, even when I disagree with viewpoint, and that is what keeps me coming back.

"What is Levity about?"

Adults talking? Not much of an answer but I have to back up and say that the thing about TOP when I first encountered it, the thing that stunned me was all the adult (mature) commenters bouncing off each other. In short it wasn't a bunch of twenty somethings or even thirty somethings proving something to each other. At TOP there were quite a few who knew what they were, didn't have to prove. I was grateful for having found such a place. Sound naive? Probably was. Took me a while to "get" Althouse. And then she had her meltdown and this place is one of the spinoffs from that meltdown. But the point, if I'm making a point, is that this place is mainly adults. Who often say adult (with humor) things, sometimes flat out silly things. Fine by me.

And top notch poetry by our resident poet who, so far, refuses the title "Poet Laureate". He will wear down eventually and accept the mantle.
