That song is golden. Chicago was a horny band, but that song was horn-free. The band was tight, and truly inspired for their time. Watch it -- shades of everything in that one.
I was 18 or so around the time of his death. He and the movie "Deer Hunter" inspired a game called "Beer Hunter" in which someone would vigorously shake up one can in a six pack, put it back in the ring and then take turns picking a beer and opening it while holding it up next to your face,
I enjoy an eclectic assortment of music, but it is not a big part of my life. My family, to varying degrees, like music more than me, but I don't know if any truly love music. This brings me to my 3 year old granddaughter. She LOVES music and starts dancing as soon as she hears it. Here's just 1 example. We were in a pizza joint eating recently. The place plays rock music. She's eating and coloring, then Billy Idol's, Dancing w/ Myself starts playing. Almost on cue, she gets up and starts dancing. The waitress was mesmerized. I'm committed to nurturing and supporting her love. Any suggestions from you fellow lovers of music would be appreciated.
When she was an infant, like most all kids, she would sometimes melt down and cry loudly. My daughter had Josh Groban singing, O Holy Night always at the ready on the phone. It ALWAYS settled her right down.
Music - I think there is about 1,000 years of musical history that needs to be covered to discover what one likes. I like all sorts of things - music from about 1700 up to the present day, orchestral, chamber works, large symphonic romantic works, 20th century American classical music, rock, blues, bluegrass, movie soundtracks, pop music, opera, vocal music, instrumental music, surf music, and on and on.
Composers? Bach, Mozart, Rossini, Handel, Haydn, Mendelssohn, and the greatest of them all, Beethoven. Copland, Bernstein, Vaugh Williams, etc.
Henry Mancini - what child wouldn't like his work?
What it boils down to is what does the child like? Keep trying things, she will let you know. Avoid Schoenberg and other atonalists - no one likes that stuff.
There you have it - play all kinds of music all the time - go heavy on the Italians and you can't lose.
Her mom is a country/western fan. My grandma's house always had opera on the record player. I'm also very aware of the pigeon holing of kids. When we were young, we played all type of sports, no specialization. Now, kids are forced by parents and coaches to choose one sport at an early age w/ the holy grail being a college scholarship. I find this a horrible culture. I am always cognizant personally and professionally of the "first do no harm" credo. It would be a cardinal sin to drive this kid into making music a chore. I feel confident her parents would never do that, and I know I never would.
All that said, I've started a GoFundMe Julliard page. Noooo, just kidding.
I just returned from the Final Four venue. You can watch teams practice for free. Saw many presumptuous and pretentious Duke fans in their Duke hats and garb. Not even smart enough to keep a low profile. Spoke w/ fans from other teams. Like the Texas Tech people. Hardly anyone from Virginia. Maybe they all fly in on private jets tomorrow?
Duke rules, well, except for when they don't. I don't follow sports so I have no idea what happened to them in their last game, but at least no 8 year old slave was executed for screwing up making a shoe. This time, anyway.

If one can learn anything from his life, it would be - check the chamber.

Open an account to fund her at Juilliard down the road.

I forgot gospel. And of course I like both kinds of music, country _and_ western.
