I don't use twitter much, just click on a posted link now and then, but I don't understand how their advertising works. I've never seen an ad in any twitter feed. How have they convinced business people to buy ads? Who sees the ad? Do you have to follow a company to see ads? I've never seen an ad on Facebook either.
I don't use Facebook except to try to find people occasionally. I once made the mistake of liking a company on Facebook to enter a contest. I was thinking of just entering contests and sweepstakes everywhere hoping one or two would pay off. I didn't think anything else about it and when I logged into Facebook after a lengthy interval there were pages and pages and pages of crap from that one company. Multiple posts a day. Facebook was very unclear on how to get rid of that like. You have to find the information online. I just don't see how social media advertising is effective.

Twitter is a parody of itself.
