Ptahhotep Maxim 26 -- Patronage

Apparently they had a different concept of patronage than we do today. They talk about teaching a patron, getting other people to accept your patron, while everything you have comes from your patron, your wellbeing depends on him, and they talk about love.

Teach a great man what is useful for him,
create his acceptance in people's midst.
When you make his wisdom come to his lord's attention,
your nourishment will be from his ka;
for the belly of love is focused on contenting
and your back will be clothed from it;
when his acceptance exists, your face will live.
Your house is with your titulary whom you love;
it is alive because of that,
and makes a good support of you as well
It also means setting love in the bely of those who love you;
look, he is a ka who loves hearing..

We'll try to see how Egyptologists get that ↑ from this ↓.

I drew a picture for you. (About a crocodile getting shot)
