I filled out my ballot this week. First time in my life that I voted straight party line.

I must say, that makes voting a lot easier.

Gonna be a lot of that.

Out with some people tonight and was impressed nobody is buying any of the bomber story.

Last time I could vote straight party ticket. It is going away in Texas. The Lt. Gov did some analysis years back and figured out that Sheila Jackson Lee probably wouldn't win if her voters couldn't vote straight ticket. See, her voters are usually driven to the poll in a van and told to go in and vote Dem straight ticket. This could be seen in the results, because he vote count was near equal the top of the ticket and other Dems down ballot. Yet, it could also be seen that the top of the ticket would get more Dem votes than down ballot, which suggested that not too many Dems were wading deep into the ballot.

Conversely, it was shown that Republicans tended to go through the ballot. This could be seen in Texas judge races, where some Republican judges got much less than others, suggesting the voters were actually a bit picky when it came to handing out votes.

I'm not sure this is a great strategy by the Texas GOP, but we won't really know for a couple more election cycles.

Whatever the case, I've seen longer lines for early voting than I've seen in recent elections. At a nearby polling place, they were routing cars in the parking lot like it was a concert or sporting event.
