What, another post?

Colorblind me saw this display of peppers at a friend's booth at the market this morning and thought "Those look colorful". So I took a picture. Then I told everyone I know to go do the same.

This bowl is white oak. It is not popular.

Windbag made me do this:

I hate you.

Why, thank you.

The way that grain spiders out is too cool. The center of the ever-expanding universe coalesces at that very point.

Not for nothing are medullary rays called rays - they radiate from the pith to the bark.

A Sad Heart At The Supermarket*

The purple pepper was lonely.
Who knew what she tasted like?
Why take a chance?

Buy the purple pepper, guys!
Don't let the exotic intimidate you.

I never heard Dolly's version. This version is in my CD player in my car right now. Talented lass. I think she only released one album, one Christmas album, then disappeared from the music industry.

Windbag, both songs are beautiful, but they sound completely different. Love them both.

How many purple peppers did ricpic pick?

ricpic said...

You can't pick 'em if they're not available. Red, Yellow, Orange only where I shop. Oh, and Green which I really don't like.

In my world all peppers are gray.

That Charity Von version is very different. Dolly's is a lot easier on my old ears.

In HI, all the food is purple.

The purple bread and the purple potatoes aren't bad, but the purple fish and the purple poi are.

Why do colored peppers cost more than green peppers? I would think that in this day and age we would stop valuing peppers on the color of their skins.

I am tired of women who think it's convincing, cute or necessary to act like little girls.

At this stage of the game I have no patience left for "I hate you"

Regardless of whether it's expressed in sincerity or jest.

It's one thing for a distraught child to give the phrase a trial test or two

And another for the adolescent to revisit it again while on the path to independence.

Power plays from those who are in the process of learning and growing I can handle.

Stymied adults committed to game playing are another matter. Given time, I'll get over it.

Mendacity wears me down, and this week I reached my limit. What restores my soul?

Stacking wood today helped. Two racks set up for winter burning. Grass mowed.

Mums from Walmart on the front porch. Purple peppers and the mention of a poet

Whose words about washing life out with a hose have stayed with me since high school.

William, I think bell peppers change color as they stay on the stem, from green to yellow to orange to red? I don't know about purple peppers...maybe that comes after red.

Every time I scroll past that bowl it slays me. Did it sell in Raleigh?

The Dude said...

It has never been for sale in Raleigh. I was there visiting my friends who were selling at that show. Other than that I rarely leave my house. Email me and I can arrange a sale and shipping anywhere in the continental US, with a slight postage and handling fee.

My bride goes on a scrap booking weekend every Fall w/ friends. They rent a house, drink wine, and scrapbook. I use that weekend to buy a basket of red peppers, roast and then freeze them. My favorite use is the classic Eyetalian peasant dish of peppers and eggs w/ crusty Eyetalian bread. ric, do you eat the classic Jewish dish of salami and eggs?

deborah said...

I thank you kindly, Sixty, but I must watch my pennies :) If you're of a mind, would you post more shots of it? What are the dimensions? I rarely leave my mind lol.

deborah said...

That sound very nice, Nick. I'm guessing the red ones are sweeter than the green? I like raw green bell peppers, but when they are baked I don't care for the bitter taste I get. Do red ones bake up differently?

ndspinelli said...

deborah, The red peppers roast up as sweet as honey. I am w/ you on green peppers.

deborah said...

Thanks, Nick. So that explains the expense. More time on the stem, better taste. Will try them in baking sometime.

Perhaps for friend, such a outstandingly lovely one-of-a-kind slaying ray bowl could be had for the price of a Soda Stream, which would then allow one to be slain in the spirit and blessed with a sense of inner effervescence if not living water for the rest of one's life?

MamaM said...

Such a bowl is definitely multi-purpose. Not only does have the power to slay, it has enough presence to hold a salad that would have everyone jonesing, and enough character to serve as a stand alone centerpiece at the Christmas Party to come, where it could prove to be as much of a conversation generator as homemade Ginger-ale. Plus, as pre-proved in this post, it can hold it's own while complementing a side Plate of Peppers, roasted or otherwise. At which point an entertaining guessing game about the origin of purple peppers could also be played, with some sort of prize for the person who knows how to quickly and easily find out if they're really red peppers that have spent more time on the stem.

The slight turn of the lip provides the subtle "more" with this bowl that invites and allows the eye to linger and move past the point of recognition into the enjoyment of beauty, pattern and form.

As for cute, and little girl voices, Dolly manages to make it work for her by balancing it with a head for business and a heart that's even bigger than her boobs. Plus she's up front about it.

MamaM said...

Add a voice like an angel to Dolly's list of assets, along with a sense of humility and wonder held in balance between playfulness and sincerity.

spinelli -- nothing against salami but I haven't had it in decades. Nova and eggs are great though. Nova is the less salty version of lox.

deborah said...

Nice, amp:) That picture would make for a great jigsaw puzzle. The purple makes it, I think.

I think rock salt is less salty than lox.
