But I am here now, we had a glorious sunrise this morning - the clouds have parted and even now I can see a bit of blue sky.
Oh yeah, that fiddle playin' reminded me - I have encountered another busker on a fairly regular basis - he plays violin, passably well, I give him some money now and then, then I request something like "Play 'Meditation' from Thais by Jules Massenet" and that son of a gun cranks it right out. That's some damn fine buskin' right there. Then I offer him more money if he won't play Ashokan Farewell, lest I go all John Belushi on his violin. Not that I would, mind you, I am not a violent man, but everyone has his breaking point, and for me it is hearing that maudlin piece of **** one more time.

Isn’t Harlan County in eastern KY? That’s coal country, at least according to your favorite arboreality show.
Since you have roots in the hills of Kentucky as well as Clarksdale, MS, you have hillbilly & western and the delta blues in your background. You should have been more Elvis-like.
Are you kin to Zane Campbell?
Well куриный человек, the hollow that bears my family name, Grit Holler, is down almost on the Tennessee/Kentucky border. As it turns out there was not a lot of mineral wealth there below the ground and once the forest was clear cut there wasn't a lot of wealth of any sort above the ground. So my grandfather moved to Clarksdale around 1910 and went down to the crossroad. The rest is history.
Interestingly enough I do have a cousin who lives in Tupelo, where Elvis was born, and it is a honey of a town.
Windbag - I don't think that I am. He seems much to social, too organized and too Down East to be related to me. But thanks for the heads up - I had never heard of him, now I will have to listen to more.
Sixty, this article was my introduction to Zane. Fascinating guy with a solid pedigree. A friend knew him from his wild NY days and passed along the article.

This song isn't as sacrilegious as the title would make you think.

That was the article that made me think that he was too neat and tidy to be related to me. The song makes me rethink my premise...
These folks are anything but neat and tidy.
