Sundance says it is another example of President Trump's gift for creating remarkable moments. Is this a remarkable moment? Open my eyes to why this is a remarkable moment. An old man hangs around VFWs all his life (their drinks are real cheap) and says what he wants. I've seen a million of 'em. (Possibly five). My mum was president of Lady's Auxiliary for a few years and every drawer in their household was filled with the commemorative jewelry they gave her for doing that so long and so energetically. The commenters over there at Sundance's place are patriotic in a basic and unalloyed way as with their religion. Religious and patriotic. Both of pure types. So they feel everything like this is super tremendous and splendid. Why is it great?
* Awesome instant rapport.
* Brought tears to my eyes.
* Don't let him near the mic, LOL, takes over.
* We owe them so much.
* Our hearts overflow with love and gratitude.
* Beautiful
And so on down the line.
It is all that? Why?
We look forward to seeing Alan Jones again next year with his family at the White House as promised. You had better live, old man, and not let us down.

OK, try this.
Trump is approachable like no President since Reagan (and that includes both Bushes (especially Dubya) who were vets) and probably not since TR (Troop would toss in Old Hickory). Trump has been rubbing elbows with guys like this his adult life (Jones served in an Army tank battalion in the ETO, his 4 brothers served in the Army, Army Air Corps, Marines, and Navy).
People willing to look at the man and see he talks and acts the way he does is because, like them, he built what he had (yeah, his father staked him originally, but after things went bust, he had to do it completely on his own). The stuffy crowd who want somebody they can show off at the country club don't get it.
It takes a little nerve to let a 94 yr old talker like Mr Jones get on the mike. Had Trump asked him any question at all that video probably would have been 30 min longer before he got done answering it. Except for pressuring Trump to let him see the Oval Office he was respectful and called him Mr President like he meant it.
It's remarkable because it's a real exchange. Not canned. Not forced. Slightly awkward but ultimately respectful, with genuine appreciation expressed by both. Trump let the moment unfold. He appeared present and in control yet open and willing to allow Mr Jones to take his time and go where he wanted to go.
Trump may be a bombalarina some of the time, but in social situations where he is recognizing introducing, or honoring others he comes through as genuine, interested, present and aware.
It's Trump being Trump.
I think maybe that guy was the model for one of the characters in "Saving Private Ryan" but I can't remember which one.
It's not that Trump honoring that veteran is so great, it's that there was an ABSENCE of the love connection between the President and the People for eight long years prior to Trump.
What a great post.
It just shows that the President is a man of the people. He always was and he always will be.
Did you see where some mook destroyed his star on the Hollywood walk of fame? The one for Kevin Spacey was right next to him and was untouched.
Hollywood values.
