Don Surber: A deal made possible by Antifa's collapse

Via Instapundit: The Democratic leaders cut a deal with Hitler, didn't they?

Should not people be on the streets rioting in reaction to Neville Schumer and Nancy Chamberlain selling them out to the Devil?

I mean when it comes to demonizing and marginalizing people, no one has been called more crude names than The Donald.

And yet, here he was graciously allowing Schumer and Pelosi to visit him in the Oval Office and cut a deal to get aid to Houston without a political catfight.

The reason is the Democrats need this win. August was horrible for them. They revealed what ugly, hateful, mean, spiteful, and nasty people they are through their Antifa henchmen.

Most Americans think little of the Confederate statues. Risking a civil war to tear them down seems unusually dumb even for Democrats.

It's over.

The election is finally over.

Democrats finally have accepted the results.

Trump saw this, and cashed in on Wednesday.

He is playing the Democratic Party leadership against the Republican Party leaders that for nine months have blown him off.

I doubt the left are going to calm down over this, but we shall see.

If the government can continue printing money as we slip into a banana republic, the New York liberal will MAGA.

Chuck and Nancy brought us 8 years of no budget. weeee. Lets play!

I dunno Don; I'd say it was a deal made possible by the GOPe collapse, which both lead to Trump (who, other than business interests, has mostly been liberal) and then the GOPe not working with Trump, thus Trump had nothing much left to do than deal with the Dems. But yeah, such a deal wouldn't have happened a month ago while the Democrats were behaving like Stalinists.

Shorter Suber: Trump can jettison all his campaign promises... I steeeel beeleeevs in Trump! *he meant to do that*!

Why I like Cruz. People hate him, and he doesn't care. New York liberal Trump is on thin ice if he ditches all his promises, and runs into the arms of the left. Oh well, still glad he beat Hillary. Please Trump, don't turn into her.

Great! So when both parties fight over who can spend the most, Trump can sign the bill that wins. Yeaaaaa!

Trump's Liberalism, except on some social issues, although I think his being from Gotham is the reason for that, has mostly been in the eyes of the paranoids.

This is an end run around not only the Whigs, but the Resisters. Suddenly, they are psychotics without a party. Unless you count the one of which the last Nazi is still a member.

But, if Chuckie and Pelosi Galore weren't reading the numbers of how being associated with Antifa was hurting the Democrats, it wouldn't be happening. This is a collapse of three wings of American politics - Establishment Demos, Whigs, and hard Left.

PS Dolf was the guy the real first Antifa (the Red Front) wanted to destroy.

Reagan said getting 80% is better than nothing, and Trump says that giving away 100% is even better.

PPS Interesting to see how the sunshine patriots and summer soldiers go back to form first chance they get.

Trump's already cut the debt by 100 B and has cut regulations, the stuff where a lot of the budget goes. As for the One True Ted, has he said anything lately?

edutcher said...

bag, he hasn't given anything yet.

December is right before the primary season begins. What happens then is going to be very fresh in the minds of voters.

But keep telling yourself how the One True Ted would have shut everything down and held the government for ransom. He's such a PR smoothie, he'd have the media on his side by now, right?

bagoh20 said...

I sure hope Trump is being strategic here, but I have never seen a politician actually do that, including the ones who were conservatives to some degree. Giving away stuff and getting praise for it is just too easy and the praise too satisfying. It's true of almost all leadership positions, which is why progressivism is relentless. Trump is different, and he loves to win, but he is also a narcissist of the highest degree. We'll see what wins out.

The only thing he gave was the idea the Whigs were the only game in town. They realized he had thrown them under the bus.

Help me out here. What is it that he gave away that wouldn't have been given away if he had held out for a longer time period on the debt ceiling?

I prefer metal roofing to shingles, but if one gets the 30 year architectural shingles then that's not so bad.

Looks like Irma is headed west of where I am, at least as of this morning, so that's good for me. Bad for others, but let us hope they have roofing that meets the proper building codes.

I understand the debt ceiling always goes up, so do the Dems, and they love when the Republicans fight over it. They always win that PR battle. They love to bring up the debt ceiling fight. So why are the Dems so happy about losing the opportunity to make Repubs look bad again? I don't know, but Trump promised something they are absolutley giddy about. They fell in love with Hitler overnight. That should worry us all. I only trust politicians when the left hates them. You all used to think the same way.

There is nothing that could make both me and the likes of Pelosi and Schumer happy.

The bill passed the Senate (yesterday) and the House (today) with overwhelming majorities.

The entire issue has been framed incorrectly by the media to put Trump the worst possible light. What they fear is the perception that Trump intervened personally in the Congressional clusterfuck and found a workable, if temporary, solution.

Their framing has worked on some of the more herdable among the flock. Don't be a sheep.

Eatin' government cheese - thanks, Spins, for reminding me of that funny sketch.

That was written by Bob Odenkirk who plays Saul Goodman on BB and BCS. I know, lah tee frickin' dah! And shut your big yapper!

Funny stuff.

I live in the piedmont, there is a very small river nearby, and it feeds into the Neuse river, so I am above the fall line in the Neuse river basin. The town I live near has over 6,000 residents, the elevation here is over 500 feet AMSL and there is a giant mountain nearby that is 867 feet tall. Some say it is the tallest peak between Mt. Mitchell and the Atlantic. I don't know about that, but it's a nice story.

But I have said too much.

I don't understand the hysteria of our former NeverTrumpers.

The Debt Ceiling was always going to be raised. It always is and always will be. Your heroes like Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell would just do the kabuki failure theater and raise the limit anyway. They will never get any concessions. They never do.

Trump just cut to the chase. He made the deal with the people who wanted to deal. The Republicans didn't want to deal. They couldn't get the Obamacare deal done. They can't get anything done.

Trump is going to build coalitions around each issue. He is not locked into the failed conservative ideology. In fact that conservative ideology is just a scam not principles. It is just a way to keep a bunch of nerds in bow ties and spats and cruises where they tell the boobs that they will fight the good fight. And lose. Like they always do.

Trooper York said...

You do put you finger on the real crux of the matter.

The Wall.

If Trump builds the Wall or at least gets a good start on it then he will satisfy a large portion of his base.

He can trade funding for the Wall for legalization of the Dreamers and a raise in the income tax on the rich that the Democrats want. He can pick off a lot of votes with that move. Governing from the middle. Leaving the so called conservatives and the hard left immigrant Antifa types out in the cold.

If he builds the Wall he will be re-elected. If he doesn't he is a one termer.

Trooper York said...

Imagine this scenerio.

Trump starts building the Wall. Continues stringent immigration enforcement including e-verify and other measures he can horse trade with the corporate Dems.

He appoints two or even three very Conservative Justices to the Supreme Court. He appoints hundreds of conservative judges to the lower courts.

He ends thousands of regulations. Lowers the size of government by simply not filling many positions to prove that the government can work just fine with those people on the job.

He privatizes construction projects for infrastructure that get done on time and under budget. Or at least sets them in place.

Foreign Policy is the real unknown. Hopefully he can get us out of Afghanistan and Iraq. He will turn away from the Deep State Generals and follow his own instincts.

But say he does all of those things. He might just retire and not run for another term. He is pretty old and after all he doesn't need all of this bullshit. Unlike Clinton and Obama he doesn't have to use the Presidency to get rich. He is already rich. So he might just retire.

If he does most of those things he can retire with a clear conscience.

Um, it was determined there wasn't sufficient evidence to make a case against Lerner.

There are a lot of people here that want somebody or other sent to Devil's Island, but you first have to find a specific law they broke and then evidence to back it up. The fact they did something you don't like isn't enough.

Sessions, who broke the Klan in AL (no mean feat), probably is better at this than Medusa.

Leland said...

Well, I was never a never Trumper. And I'm not panicked either. But, the debt ceiling, the gimmick that it was, was at least some sort of check. At least a few Republicans were willing to use it to get concessions, but Trump will just say they lie, and move on. In the meantime, we have a deal to fix DACA, no deal to repeal Obamacare, extension of the war on Afghanistan, I rather not think about North Korea (though I think it is mostly posturing), and these hurricanes will function like 9-11 to derail the rest of the Trump agenda, as we have now seen. So, no reason to panic, but it does seem like another 4 years of same old same old, with the exception of a roll back of some Obama over reach.

And this aid stuff... it is just tax cuts that mostly come about because businesses and individuals can claim real losses, so its not so much a cut or a benefit that it is an acknowledgement that thousands will be able to lawfully claim a loss against their income. Oh, you can also take a hardship loan against your 401k without the penalty of early withdrawal (which I didn't think you paid anyway for loans against 401k, unless you default), and you can start putting money back into your 401k immediately (which again, I thought was what you did to payback the loan).

edutcher said...

Trump has shown the Whigs they are expendable. In three months, with primaries just around the corner, a lot of people will have a greater awareness of the people who get their vote.

The issue is not three months. It is beating both wings of the Establishment, which Trump is doing.

As for the Norks, if they pull something stupid, we will have all the provocation any President would need and, Troop notwithstanding, this is not be a long drawn-out affair. Even the Red Chinese don't like them.

On the subject of the hurricanes, the pictures of Trump handing out supplies in LA while Pissy went golfing are already making the rounds while we've seen The Donald go down to TX twice and the mop-up is going smoothly even as he has already met with first responders in FL. This is not going to be Katrina, no matter how much Shep Smith and Keith Ubermoronn want it.

Republicans make a habit of dragging out their kabuki costumes, masks, wigs and makeup, serially, to put on their show with the theme of debt ceiling and budgets. How many times have we seen this together? I cannot even count them. Trump removed that show for this season He funded government until December and without the possibility of Democrat disruption on government shutdown tantrum. Nerf kabuki. That fake ass nerf fight cannot happen allowing Trump to concentrate on something else that he wants. Tax reform. All that I see is Trump smacking around recalcitrant Republican leadership resolved in not representing their constituency. Trump is forcing them to shit or get off the pot, take a laxative, do a cleanse, a colon flush, something, just show their true colors because the acting gig is up. Thank you Tea Party types. You really did shake this government to its roots. You are Irma. And the clarity is bracing.

But that is not me.

This is not where my thoughts allow me to reside.

No. Instead, I must think about other things.

Notice how in hurricanes all the crap gets tossed around. Solid well built things stay put. Crap gets blown down and away.

The more fragile the crap, then the more near-useless shit that gets flung out of existence. It's like God, or perhaps Nature itself expressing it doesn't give a shit about all your silly fragile shit that fills out your lives.

The Indian Ocean tsunami really showed this. All that shit washed away. I was amazed at the amount and at the incredibly low quality of everything. Bamboo furniture, plastic household items, paper dividers, sticks, light fabrics, cheap shit literally flooding away and with people swimming among horribly cheap shit.

And people go, man, the next thing I build is going to be solid.

Something that can hold up to abuse.

So codes are developed and replacement homes and commercial buildings are built more solidly than before. Earthquakes are taken into account. Floods are considered in advance of building. High wind stress is tested. Silly bamboo and aluminum crap is held to a minimum.

Then a new storms comes. Half the roofs are ripped away and roofs right next to them stay put undamaged.

I imagine people look at the undamaged roofs and ask themselves what the differences are in building materials and technique.

Powerful storms are incredibly clarifying. They put into sharp contrast what works and what fails. They wash away cheap shit.

Trump is a storm. Inflicted by Tea Party type voters upon a beautiful system that was made to not work. If nothing else, Trump is incredibly clarifying. But that undersells Trump. He's actually much more than mere clarity. That is a side benefit of tearing both parties new assholes.

deborah said...

That's right, Obama was one callous mofo when tragedies struck. Can't remember any specifics, it was such a common occurrence. He'd always go golfing, or go ahead with vacation plans.

Trooper York said...

It is a generally accepted principle that a new administration does not prosecute the officials of the preceding administration especially if they are of the opposition party.

I think what are arguably three most contentious elections in American history illustrate that.

The Jefferson vs John Adams election was the first one where parties changed and the opposition took control. Jefferson did not prosecute the people who promulgated the Alien and Sedition acts. It was the first example of the peaceful transition of power between opposing political parties.

The Election of 1860 that result in the Civil War did not even result in mass prosecutions for treason. Lincoln offered amnesty and forgiveness and did not hang actual traitors out of hand. In reality nothing that Hillary or Obama or Lerner or any of the Democratic crooks did rises to the actual treason of people like Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee. I don't support destroying statues but I don't minimize the fact that they were traitors.

I know it would be viscerally satisfying to prosecute Hillary and Lerner and all the rest. I just don't think it should be done. It is simply counter productive.

Unless of course Don Jr. and Jared and Rance Prebius and Scott Spicer are indicted in a witch hunt by the pet Democratic special prosecutor. If that happens then all bets are off.

The Andrew Jackson and John Quincey Adams election was another example. Trump who looks at Jackson as a role model realizes that he did not attempt to prosecute those involved in the corrupt bargain that had lost him the prior election or various corrupt practices of Biddle in the National Bank that was one of his main campaign issues. He just changed things around and did not prosecute.

Trooper York said...

I messed up the sequence of the prior comment but you know what I mean.

Trump is a deal maker. He is going to govern from the middle. If he gives me conservative judges, energy independence, less regulations and a more isolationist foreign policy I will be satisfied. Of course he still has to build the Wall. That is non-negotiable. I think he knows that. He is setting up the meme that he is reasonable and is willing to work with Democrats. If they shut down the government to stop the funding for the Wall he will be able to roll them. Or at least the vast majority of both parties who are venal scumbags and want to be reelected. That is what he is setting up here. He is showing that Ryan and McConnell are irrelevant to the process. They can get on the train or be left in the station.

Trooper York said...

I am a nationalist. An isolationist. An America Firster. I don't care about tax cuts for the wealthy. I just want my social security and Medicare. I want mine. I don't care about future generations. They have to sort it out for themselves. All of these hipsters who protest to get more illegals will have to deal with that demographic disaster when they are ready to retire.

I will be deader than Murphy's Dick so I don't give a shit.

They said they were going to repeal Obamacare for 7 years, but now its just too hard for them. They voted for a wall, but they're against funding it. They cucked and surrendered to Obama every chance they got, and now...
