Seems like ages since I've posted anything here. We're in the midst of moving -- leaving Oceanside for Irvine.
I heard this song today and it reminded me of so many regrets. I've always admired that band, and what they overcame and how they kept plugging.
@Sixty: Here are the stairs. I lovingly restored the rails, but I haven't put them back up. We love the open look too much.
Added: Lyrics for "Regret" after the jump
Maybe I've forgotten the name and the address
Of everyone I've ever known
It's nothing I regret
Save it for another day
It's the school exam and the kids have run away
I would like a place I could call my own
Have a conversation on the telephone
Wake up every day that would be a start
I would not complain of my wounded heart
I was upset you see
Almost all the time
You used to be a stranger
Now you are mine
I wouldn't even trust you
I've not got much to give
We're dealing in the limits
And we don't know who with
You may think that I'm out of hand
That I'm naive, I'll understand
On this occasion, it's not true
Look at me, I'm not you
I would like a place I could call my own
Have a conversation on the telephone
Wake up every day that would be a start
I would not complain of my wounded heart
I was a short fuse
Burning all the time
You were a complete stranger
Now you are mine
I would like a place I could call my own
Have a conversation on the telephone
Wake up every day that would be a start
I would not complain about my wounded heart
Just wait till tomorrow
I guess that's what they all say
Just before they fall apart

Peter Hook looks pretty cool -- almost digging the sand with his bass guitar.
Noice.
Fine craftsmanship.
Sadly, I'd need railings or else I'd have to touch your walls.
But what an amazing occurrence of two samplings from random probability distribution yielding the same value. I meant to say, what a coincidence!
I just now needed to show "regrets" needed for the first line in "Back to Black." I decided to use "sorry" before checking to see what other people decided. There are different ways to say it involving "R" but sorry seemed best.
I watched a whole bunch of videos because I like them so much. My favorite is an obviously twisted sister, just my type, who dolled herself up to look like Amy Winehouse. She makes a lot of choices that differ from my version. For "kept his dick wet" she uses a derogatory epitaph placed near the face and I will have nothing to do with that. My version shows a big ol' honking dick graphically. How rude! But the song really is rude. So euphemisms dilute Winehouse's poetry.
While the thing that I really dig about her video is the unintended humor of a pair of crutches leaning against the wall in the background and a cat tearing across the floor near the end.
Come on. Be a sport and see what I'm on about.

The silent introduction is her telling us her name is amber and this will be a song by amywinehouse its name is back to black (spelled) black (signed).
All these kids use the new way to say "back," a "b-k" movement, but I like the old way, an index finger pushing back a "B." There are a lot of other variances too. Throughout all the videos of this song, I like my choices better than all of theirs. Go figure.
Better not invite me over. If I fall on your steps and break my neck I'm definitely suing. Because I've just f'k'n had it with broken bones.
Kidding.
Amber looks way better than Amy -- even all tatted up!
Dude, install a railing - even if you only need it once you will really, really need it. Plus if you don't I'm telling the code enforcement guys.
Nah, kidding. but there is a reason that the building codes require hand rails.
You could use some cats to go with those stairs.
Very nice, Chick.
Is this the place you are moving to? or from?
To
I like the stairs like that. Railings have ruined many a pretty line. Simply supply helmets to all visitors, and get signed waivers. It looks great though.
Chick - is that your purse? I like it.
Live code free... It feels good.
No, but there are times I need a murse.
Surprised no one has commented on the deer.
I figured the dead deer head was there to impale anyone who fell down your railingless stairs - if they are dead they can't sue.
oh yeah - what's up with the dear?
@April: It's a family heirloom. It will hang on the wall, high above the landing, its head looking wistfully out a window.
"Regret" has one of those gorgeous cross-lingual etymologies.
Love it!
Poor dear.
I have the regret cd.
I used to like the song avalanche.
