Arizona Sheriff Arpaio deputizes, sort of, 250K concealed carry gun owners

"On Tuesday, the so-called "Toughest Sheriff in America" said he cannot guarantee the public's safety and called on them to take matters into their own hands if necessary.

"I'm just talking about the areas where you have large crowds and someone pulls out the gun and starts shooting. Maybe somebody with a concealed weapon takes the guy down," Arpaio said.

Specifically, Arpaio was looking to the 250,000 Arizonans who carry concealed weapons permits to help keep the peace.

But there are some in law enforcement who are calling this a bad idea."

An amount that will make a difference will contain two commas.

You won't see an attack at the firing range, even though they could walk right in with weapons and ammo. That's because they must believe Allah finds it rude to shoot armed people.

The ubiquitous and anonymous "some" sources.
I'd settle for freeing people to speak up about obviously suspicious activities they have observed without fear of PC reprisal.

We just received the following email from a customer of ours in the Netherlands. It's from a woman who is a lawyer there.

"Heard last night about the horrible terror-attack in California, San Bernardino.

Terrible! I do feel sorry for you all.

I noticed your President immediately was misusing this awful mass-shooting for his pledge for better control of gun sales.

By doing so he shows to have a very short memory and also an awful poor judgement. Think of Paris, just 3 weeks ago!

European citizens are not allowed to have our own guns for self-defense (we do have a very strict gun control system enforced by law) and in spite of this very strict gun control-system, those unbelievable and very inhumane attacks are still taking place mostly for the sake of Islam. In spite of what our European politicians (and the press) are telling us, the mean stream of ordinary European people, -whether they are from the UK, Germany, Belgium, France, Sweden or Spain- really think of themselves as a sort of ‘sitting ducks’…

I always used to think the American people should be better off with a gun control system.

Nowadays I’m not so sure anymore. Our world is changing dramatically…

Wish you well and take care,"

I thanked her for her kind words and told her that the only reason we have the right to defend ourselves with firearms is because it is in our Constitution, and enough people understand the importance of it to fight the endless attempts to take away that right. Unfortunately, we are rarely allowed to have that protection outside our homes where the threats are greatest. All these attacks in the U.S or Europe only happen where guns are forbidden. I fear for people in Europe where, as you say, people are sitting ducks. I hope you remain safe.

The reality is that there are not enough police to protect everyone and the bigger reality is that the police can't be instantaneously there when you need them.

In our area, because we are so rural, the police are not just minutes away but more like an hour. At night we don't have ANY Sheriffs patrolling. The are in a couple of locations...we call them cop shops, and are on call. During the day we have two sheriff units that cover at least a thousand square miles. Maybe more.

So. We are used to the idea that while they might want to be there, it isn't likely going to happen. We are on our own. People in the cities need to get used to that idea as well. Be proactive and take care of yourself and your own communities.

Although...they sometimes are dogging it. We have a friend who used to own the local grocery store. He is a big man and blunt spoken is not even close to catching his personality. He apprehended a shoplifter who had been caught many times before. So. He tied the guy up and called the Sheriff and told them he had the guy in custody and to come and get him (again). They informed him that they were busy and couldn't be there for a couple of hours. So....our friend told them, that he was busy too trying to run his store and didn't have time to baby sit this POS. He informed them that he would lock the guy in the cold room/freezer area and they could get him. "NO NO you can't do that....He'll freeze!!!" "Well, you'd better hurry up then." They showed up in about 15 minutes.

I observed something suspicious.

Two dudes in the elevator with the kind of beards that say "I simply cannot be bothered to shave" slim, trim, with that mean and savage starved look, with otherwise handsome faces and penetrating eyes that appear to be lined and I'm all, "Did you put f'n makeup on or what?" And when they spoke to each other it came out all squiggly and backwards like this:

التوقف عن طرح العديد من الأسئلة

And I'm all, whuuuuu?

Very suspicious, the beards, the darting eyes, the mesmerizing eyeliner, the throaty phlegm-talk that comes out all squiggly, wouldn't you say? I should turn their asses in.

I'm all for Sheriff Arpaio's sentiments, but I've noticed that some people are getting hold of the wrong end of the stick. I've heard of two or three incidents where a concealed-carry shot at shoplifters fleeing stores. Not cool.
