This is your final final final final deadline......if you fail to adhere to Heir Angela's orders we will have another final deadline....there is no renegotiation until we try and renegotiate again....you will not be bailed out until we give you even more debt money and allow you even longer to never pay it back......now is that clear.......anybody ?

I recommend Heinlein's "For Us the Living". It covers all this.

Note the vilification of Merkel for Greece's profligacy. That much will happen here.

If Merkel/Germany is Greece's scapegoat? who or what country is going to be ours?

@Lem: China no doubt. It will play well too.

Somebody somewhere must do the heavy lifting.

Leftwing economics assumes that we don't need anyone doing any heavy lifting.
We can destroy economics are replace it with free money. worthless free money. Then, we all scratch our heads as we witness total societal deterioration.

(also called Paul Krugman economics 101)

Is Greece a Lehman Bros. or a Goldman Sachs? My guess is Lehman Bros. They'll let Greece collapse to provide a useful warning to Spain and Portugal.......Every time I start feeling like a savvy investor, the market collapses. The Grexit will have more immediate impact on my life than gay marriage or Confederate flags. That's not to say it will have much impact.

Watched new TV series "The Robot" the other night about an estranged-from-society "millennial" low-level corporate security hacker whose secret personal mission it is to do just this--destroy all world bank/credit card data bases and thus transfer "wealth back to the people" by destroying all debt.

PS: He is the "hero" of the series, btw. Why am I not surprised?..... Deep thoughts about economics and a "just" society..

(PS: I don't know who I'm more afraid of, the potential existence of a lone-wolf like our series hero and the damage he might do, or the thought processes of the writers who conjured up the series, the production execs who approved it and the fans who cheer our erstwhile "hero" on..)

Look over there!

@Virgil - all of those production execs and writers ... who RECEIVE A PAYCHECK.

Will they be the first to give up those pay-checks? I'm thinking.... no.

No writer was ever driven to write novel describing what considerate people his parents were or to celebrate what a just, bountiful society he was living in. That said, it does seem that bourgeoise capitalism gets nearly all the flack. I can point to agricultural workers like Tom Joad in the Grapes of Wrath or hard up sharecroppers in Faulkner, but where's the searing novel about the plight of someone on a collective farm. In the 20th century, collective farms killed more people than WWI but their deaths have gone unrecorded and unmourned by the literary types. There weren't even newspaper reports, much less novels or movies. Some forms of oppression are more oppressive than others. While mass starvation is undoubtedly unpleasant, it's nothing compared to the sufferings inflicted on migrant Mexican farm workers by Tom Joad's grand kids.

The scapegoat of the government of the United States will be the people of the United States.

Actually, the Red Chinese are in bad trouble, too. All those years of trying to maintain 9% GDP by building Potemkin cities have put them in the same boat as everybody else.

Considering the Ruuskies want to start WWV and the crazies have a radiological bomb, when it comes, I'm betting it all comes at once.

How did this puissant country of boy lovers and hold this much sway?

"Puissant" is a funny word. It sounds like the opposite of what it means. Another one like that is "public service".
