British elections

The liberals of Britain will learn nothing from this trouncing. It is not possible. What they will do instead is double down on their disregard. But then both David Cameron and Nigel Farage are self-parodying.

About that plan referred to in the video...

It is an actual stone. A BETTER PLAN A BETTER FUTURE.  "What happens to the stone if Miliband loses?" A question I saw a few times tonight on Twitter. At this writing conservatives have overtaken labor considerably and that is without the Scottish National Party that has all of Scotland in a stunning sweep. One person suggested it could be his tombstone.

I have not seen the likes of anything quite so vapid ever done in stone. Parodied heavily here [miliband's stone] .

Even this one: [Any priest who walks by this stone without saying a prayer to Haremhemet* I will wring his neck like a bird]

1) Strong economic foundation. How? What is intended?
2) Higher living standards for working families. How high? From what to what? How will success be measured? What is the base? It is an empty platitude.
3) Healthcare system with "time to care" You sound like a girl.
4) Controls on immigration. Oh? There aren't controls now? This is a reversal for Labor. It's been nothing but straight up racism for decades. It is how your party characterizes UKIP.
5) Next generation better off. Please. Not possible with you in their way or even around.
6) Homes to buy and acton on rents. Government has nothing to do with that except get out of the way and without specifying what action on rents we're left to assume you have no idea.

This is your leader, Labor, the man you favor while dismissing without seriously regarding anybody or anything else, in an earlier election cycle. If you don't care to watch, he is stuck on one answer to every question to a ridiculous extent as if something malfunctioned with his mechanical prerecorded answer provider and it can deliver only one single spiel. But they're stuck with him, and only him, so support him they do, sort of like Hillary except a lot less flexible.

Labor voters don't care. Miliband's plan in stone is just fine with them, What concerns them most is UKIPs racism and stern Tory economic policies that show Tories don't care about people.

Maybe I'll get my wish if I keep watching Mad Men. [SPOILER ALERT.] In the latest episode, Don Draper has become a small fish in a big pond and he has to sit through some imebecilic presentation on how they're all supposed to figure out how to sell some diet beer made by Miller. It is excruciating.

Don walks out -- not loudly, not quietly. He just walks. And he ends up behind the wheel of his car, on the highway, headed to nowhere in particular. The Horizon.

Years ago, during a drug-addled hallucination, Don Draper's father appeared before him full of hate, dirty and sweaty, guzzling corn whiskey, and his father cursed him: "You sell bullshit."

Maybe Mad Men ends with Don Draper on the road, on his way to the California where he was baptized in the waters of the Pacific Ocean blessed by Anna Draper. Maybe Don Draper, Dick Whitman, wiil now seek an enlightened soul.

Or maybe he gets his second wind and decides to pursue a career in politics.

That would suck.

"controls on immigration"

Well, that's a lie. The modern left is dying and they need vast numbers of new welfare recipients to stay alive.

I just learned Milliband's father is a marxist/ socialist college profesor immigrant to England from Russia. I guess the apple did not fall far from that tree.

British friends report that media is back to bashing the "masses" as "stupid" and "fearful" and that efforts must be renewed to interact with these strange masses creatures. (I guess by calling them stupid and fearful?)
Change!

Wow, Mad Men taking a page from the Sopranos playbook. Maybe Don Draper will be gunned down at Denny's with his family.

My favorite humour site has gone completely humourless. When it comes to politics liberal cartoonists are incapable of introspective funny. It's all the usual stuff X10, and to illustrate that they simply cannot process politics nor economics beyond their own pinched prejudices they still limit their sweep, their grasp, their full area of play is limited to depicting Cameron as sex slave to Murdock, that again (!), well executed I admit, funny to them I suppose, but utterly limited to the tiny space of Happy Toast's own pinched pre-judgements, his prejudices and those prejudices are just flat f'ji#@#ing not funny. Maybe once. Maybe once long ago. But not 10,000 times and not the only thing possible. This is why fail as cartoonist with so much talent, politically a one-trick whatever. As mod for the site front pages his own work among hundreds of entries submitted daily so piss off you're not funny just butthurt and that's funny.

But political introspection is not entirely dead. LibDems reveal new post-election battle bus.

Eric, you make Mad Men sound interesting. Thank you for penetrating it and revealing its inner secrets, and so well too. I tried watching but couldn't somehow then tried again and couldn't somehow so tried again and just couldn't. And here you are telling me all thing that I miss and it's quite extraordinary because I never could see any of that.

Ever been to Britain, Chip?

Ever been more than a few hundred miles outside of wherever you grew up or have lived for the past decade?

What do you think that would be like?

Nigel Farage didn't even get a single seat.

Minor point for someone too wrapped up "dismissing without seriously regarding anybody or anything else."

BTW, the SNP that swept Scotland is much more Labour-friendly than Tory, with whom they would have formed any coalitions. Scotland's gripe is much a backlash against the way Tory's neoliberalism is playing out in their backyard. Another minor detail for someone who thinks they know everything if they can only extrapolate their own ideological political masturbation onto it.

Chip, Funny stuff. Labour is in a bit of fix right now. Until the economy goes South, they can't get elected just by saying "we're not conservatives". Meanwhile, their leaders contempt for the average Englishman and their love of the EU and immigration has increased the UKIP vote to over 12%. All they can do at this point is wait for economic disaster or till enough "people of colour" arrive.

Britain's got one of the West's least competitive economies and least business-friendly environments. So there's obviously work for the Tories to not get done - as they've not gotten done for the past five years of their tenure now. So stay boring, Britain. Stay uncompetitive. And stay conservative. It gives ignorant American RWA's (like the author) something to feel good about, if nothing else.

funny you say that. I was pondering, some time ago earlier, that the left are like a collective bowel movement squeeze.

Galloway booted.
much delicious

Cheez jonsin hardest hit.

UKIP only won one seat BUT massively increased it's share of the vote, coming in second in many races. Also, Farage stepped down. Amazing! A politician not clinging desperately to power.

rcocean said...

I must say that while Labour is horrible, the Lib/Dems are the absolute worst. If the UK had 'soccer moms' or 'Rockefeller Republicans' they'd all vote for the Lib/Dems. Their leader was a big liar (even by UK Pol standards) and the Lib/Dem litmus issues seem to be supporting the EU, Amnesty for illegal aliens, reducing the voting age to 16, and getting rid of Trident.

No wonder these clowns got hammered.

But this is a hilarious statement because of the fact that it doesn't matter. The British system is second only to the U.S. in making sure third parties get their vote diluted as much as possible, and the larger parties get their own vote tallies inflated. It's ludicrous. Reverse democracy, basically.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Galloway's finally going? That's nice. Second only to getting bashed up last fall.

That guy's a major fuckface if ever there was one. A rank demagogue to the lowest bidder with no other talents or tributes whatsoever.

rcocean said...

Yes, UKIP is up to 12.6% of the vote. In 2010 it had `1 million votes in 2015 - 4 million. It says a lot of the Labour party elite that they would rather lose, then adopt the positions of the UKIP on immigration and the EU. IOW, as always with the Left, their anti-patriotic internationalism trumps their support for the working class and the poor EVERY TIME.

rcocean said...

You seem the same thing in the USA. The Liberals would rather see the native born Working class - white and black - ground into the dust rather than stop illegal immigration. Their internationalism always trumps their supposed love of the poor and working class.

Ground down to serve the Greater Good: the poor (permanently on call to serve as the poster children for redistribution), the working class (anyone who still works a job, at this point), the un- and under-employed (those jobs are not coming back for a reason), the youth (including everyone who will be on the hook for the reckless redistributive spending of borrowed money that has taken place), the unborn (they don't vote, unlike the dead), people of all races (constant government-media insistence that race defines an individual; same goes for sex and sexual orientation), religious people (inconvenient clingers), the elderly (your government is going to overcharge for a palliative aspirin and then kill you off), taxpayers (feeding the voracious sloppy savage beast for the rest of your life), legal immigrants (joke's on you), and even illegal immigrants. They don't realize or don't care that they're just being used as pawns and are being imported like cheap goods to undercut the power of the people who are already here. Will their plight be any better, ultimately, than it was in their nation of origin which is also run by socialist mandarins and their cronies?

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Are you listening to what I said, loser? The UKIP vote is not big enough for a single seat, so Tories might as well pretend they'll be taking that vote anyway. Labour wouldn't win anything by pandering to UKIP, as important it is to prevent further immigration into Britain. It's all an EU issue, anyway. As in the US, once someone gets in, they can go to any European country they want, and half the issue is East European Poles/etc. who are already European flooding British labor markets. This can only be handled at the level of the EU, which it won't, so all that happens is the Tories will pretend to have referenda on EU membership that won't go anywhere. It's a smoke-and-mirrors game and you cons a continent away are the only ones dumb enough to believe it matters. Like I said, fixing the British voting system to give 3rd parties like UKIP or whomever a stronger voice would have done much more good on a lot of levels, but since when do conservatives ever fix anything for the better? Their system will continue to languish in anti-democratic two-party stagnation, nothing will happen on immigration, but you silly douchebags will have something to beat your chests about ad infinitum. Bravo.

It's like abortion. Just an issue to keep alive with the knowledge and hope that nothing will actually be done about it. Can't deprive a faction that wants to do nothing from having something to forever complain (and do nothing) about. That's the way conservatism works. Fixing the problems is counter-productive to their politics.
