Landing on that comet may be one of the most incredible technological achievements that I'll see in my lifetime. It is the stuff of science fiction, yet there it is in real life.
Math, science, and physics. No special effects, no cool apps. Just the smartest people with the craziest ideas, and they look like they had a remarkable quotient of fun in accomplishing their previously unthinkable goal of landing a refrigerator on a moving comet, far, far away.
Imagine what we would be doing today if we had kept advancing for last last 50 years at the rate we were mid-century. We still spent all that money anyway. We just spent it on other stuff. Was it worth it?
I'm not bagging on a significant accomplishment, but I am saying we are aiming far lower than we used to. Why is that?
I blame the increasing influence of the female mindset on our culture, which favors safety, security, and equality, and avoids risk, bravado, and doing crazy ass shit for the hell of it. Face it, if it was up to your mom, you'd still be in your childhood bedroom, playing with Tonka toys, or even Barbie for Christ's sake. Moms run everything today, and dads are pretty much a quaint anachronism.
Of course moms are essential, and I love mine, who I just moved in with me this month. We need them absolutely, and would be total assholes without them, but how about a little balance today, especially with boys.

It cost a lot to finally get that little guy but I say it was money well spent.
A long way to thread a needle.

Down a black hole.
They seem to have lost the probe. I hate it when that happens.
Also, Shirtgate.
"They seem to have lost the probe."
I suspect larceny. The hairless bug-eyed bubble-heads love those things.

This is a civil forum. Please do not speak of Ritmo in those terms.
This is the kind of thing eggheads are into. So, of course they're going to get it wrong.
