It's just getting started, but you are getting a little taste of what the world would be like without a U.S.A. The world knows we are still here, but we're asleep. The only thing holding any of it together is the knowledge that we may wake up soon, maybe 2016.
The world depends on American leadership and power. Not to solve all the problems and make people get along, but to be there and seen as an immovable obstacle and a check on assholes with cruel ambitions, to give people some hope and confidence that their part of the world won't be left entirely to genocide and atrocity unimpeded.
I think people are not inclined to to believe that now, not the good, the bad, or the ugly.
For the evil, genocidal, tyrants, rapists and murderers IT'S FRIDAY! and America is already passed out out cold on the couch!
Our victory in Iraq and the installation of a democratic government was a great accomplishment wrestled from evil at enormous cost, and it could have shown many around the world that a better more civilized future was still something that was possible. We threw it all away for the political ambitions of a few small men and women and the pursuit of silly appearances posing as real progress.
Some people like to say that race is a part of everything in America, and I never agree with that, but that single obsession sure did screw up most everything real quick.
The HDD leaning like that makes me smile. That's how to add the new HDD. And I can assure you that HDD, hanging on a wire literally, at an improper angle, and not screwed into the protective frame, also won't have a sudden catastrophic failure the moment a federal probe begins.
I hear what you're saying about race, but I'm not sure that's the main reason Obama was elected in 2008. I'm inclined to think it was more the ascendancy triumphant of a celebrity-worshipping culture. He looked and sounded just like central casting, didn't he? Put alongside tired, aged McCain, he looked pretty good to those thoroughly soaked in that culture.
Race helped, of course, because it then became a twofer, but mostly because it worked mighty well to ward off close inspection early on. Once over stuff like the Rev. Wright, all he and his campaign had to do was make the smooth moves, and it was tingles up pant-legs all over the place.
I do think race made the numerical difference in the elections. It didn't have to be the main reason for most people in order to turn the numbers enough. It was the primary force behind enough votes and especially behind much of the turnout among those incline to vote on race. Many simply would not have voted and for many others who had no real affinity to either side, it was a huge unbalanced plus on the Democrat ticket. I heard many say "I don't like either party, but it would be good to have a Black President, which I agree with if all other things were equal.
More importantly is that race made a huge difference in everything since the election with this administration. It is the reason that so much corruption, incompetence and weakness, has been tolerated, rationalized or ignored. That is why it only made sense to vote for a Black candidate if he was a conservative. The double armour of being Black and liberal made even honest fair criticism of him just to dangerous for those who live by the PC code, which is most of the media, much of congress, and a large portion of the public.
I agree that it's solely race that's made toleration of all the crap since his election possible. And, yes, it would have made all the difference if the first black president had been conservative. Damn bad luck, really, since the Republicans had a shot at it with Colin Powell once upon a time.
I think Powell has, or at least had at one time, conservative instincts. His voting for Obama should probably be seen as an anomaly. But I could be wrong!

IT's like you're living my life.
It's not mynocks chewing on the power cables, it's kittens.
No way a used computer stays that clean, unless it was the kittens job.
Speaking of messes, did you hear Obama is bombing Iraq? Weird republicans make weird stuff up all the time.
I saw it refered to in the news as "targeted bombing."
I'm guessing that means not carpet bombing.
Good to know.

bagoh,

Perception won out over reality. Unintended consequences were not considered. Feeling is so much easier than thinking.
Today, I had to do a "restore to a previous time", because after about 8 am, I couldn't open Google Chrome.
My cat had nothing to do with it. He's just not that competent with computers'

Colin Powell is black, but he is no conservative.
He voted for Obama at least twice.
I think Powell has, or at least had at one time, conservative instincts. His voting for Obama should probably be seen as an anomaly. But I could be wrong!
Glad to see you are finally getting some pussy.
