Well, I took an Allegra that my visiting step mom carries for my father, who also gets bad allergies at this time of year. I had my cup of coffee, and I learned something new just before 9 am.
Is it odd that pan is bread in Japanese? It's probably a loan word from some place that grows wheat.
The Nebraska wheat farmer I keep in touch with grows high-protein winter wheat. He said all of it goes straight to Japan. But I think he was exaggerating.
That was so interesting. I often use Panko in cooking. Now I know why it is next to impossible to recreate it at hone.

I thought that was strange too. Pan is the word for bread in Spanish. Pao is the Portuguese for bread. Maybe it is a loan word from either of those sources. Likely the Portuguese, since they had a large presence in the exploration of Asia and did a lot of trading.

Panko.
Now I'll have something to throw at people at the restaurant table when they order it and not know what it is.
Is that wrong?
I thought Rick Panko played bass for The Band.
