Holy crap! What rock gods! That is my idea of the perfect band, and I still dream of being a man like that to this day, with the groupies, the natural talent, the poise, and the coolness that's beyond words. The rest of you may aim lower, but I shoot for the stars. Those dudes are hot, and that keyboard player makes me wish I was a woman.
This is from a time when we clearly took Native Americans serious with Rock icons like Cher, and Paul Revere and Raiders promoting sober, realistic portrayals of Native cultures.
In 1970 I remember standing on the Frisco pier and looking across the bay at Alcatraz that the Indians had just taken over. They probably brought their drums with them.
Apache's have a rep for being bad asses. I don't think that keyboard player would have been too comfortable around them.
"Apache" was supposed to have been a big hit in the mid-60s during the British invasion, but I never heard it on the radio (and Philly had some of the best rock stations in the country - WFIL, WIBG, WDAS, WHAT - and we got the NY stations, as well) until years later.
I guess it was one of those Euro things that was a big hit across the pond and caught on in someplace like LA.
LOL! I well remember the song, but THAT VID! Encapsulates a lot of the over-the-top excesses of 70s for sure. Talk about the doubleplusPCungood "appropriation" of another "culture!" Were it made today, the band, the dancers and whoever produced that vid would all be in jail today in the cell next to the guy that made the anti-Muslim vid, lol

"I was alive in the 70's..."
Did you have a pet Dinosaur?
I monstrosity arose during the lull between Zeppelin and Disco.
Although there is some fine interpretive dance that I have not seen since summer camp.
Amerinds really do dance like that. I'm fairly sure.
"The Paradise Syndrome" was unquestionably to worst Star Trek episode ever.
Still, Kirk got to bang a hot Amerind chick so there's that.
Make that "the worst" not "to worst."
WURST!!!
There was a Kliban cartoon where a prison guard was escorting a sausage to its jail cell.
The title?
"A Term for the Wurst."
And yet that guy never got the Nobel prize for literature.
Go figure.
Meh.
close but no cigar.
I hereby award myself three marks out of four.
Damn!

Perhaps, like many of us Chip, much of the 70s is lost. Purple microdot took a lot of my memories.

You know, I was pretty embarrassed about the 70's, even while living in that era. But this just tops it, now I am ashamed. How did we let this happen?
My husband and I are laughing our asses of right now.
The look on the keyboard player's face at .26 is the goofiest look I've even seen in my entire life.
Just in case somebody doesn't remember or isn't aware of how great the original was.
The canned orchestra music -eee gads.
WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?!?!?

Egad! And these guys were in bands to get women?
The song is so frightening, Lem won't even hoard it.
Thanks PHX - I have the 45 from my dad. It's awesome.
PHX's link is wonky -- here's the original.
Yeah, that was pretty fine EMD. Love the spacey effects.
