The Jacob Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies.
Yellowbullet. Message board, people are not thinking too forgivingly about this mistake. It is going to talk a long time to fix this depth of stupid, if that is even possible.
Living just enough, just enough for the city.

That's what Hollywood told em'.
I blame it on Steven Spielberg. Aside from DDL's performance, that was the most pathetic movie I've seen in a while.
Hipsters.
The plaque has been there since 1905?
Jesus Chickie. Talk about an implacable man with strange tastes. What was the movie supposed to have that you found it lacking?
To preemptively cheer you up from whatever doldrums that exploration brings you to, here's a video of Germans. With helium! For a teutonophilic proud chemist, life must not get any better than that… with the exception, I mean, that you'll probably deem as its reprehensible embrace of relevant and modern forms of musical expression, of course.
Hopefully you won't take the news that it came courtesy of your buddy Andy Sullivan too hard, either.
But seriously, when you get out from behind the chirbit microphone and settle into your directors chair, exactly what did you find that the movie was so supposedly sorely lacking?
Vampires!
Well, yeah! But, besides that…
I so want to watch that movie.
The plaque is indefensible, Ritmo. It's hard to believe that: (1) someone was stupid enough to request it as is; and (2) someone was stupid enough to make it under direction from someone else.
That said, it's just a stupid, inconsequential error which should only embarrass those responsible--especially because it's at an alleged university.
I dunno. Seems like it just as easily could be intentional.
With a 4 year graduation rate of 4%, it seems understandable that this plaque would not have caught anyone's attention, student or teacher, for 108 years.
@ritmo: But that video link is hysterical. I'd make a post out of it but that would brand me a sullivanist.
What's really funny is if you open the image in a new tab, it's named "Lincoln-Plague.jpg"
It didn't seem real because it is odd and non sequitur to state the party affiliation. Unless it would be to note that it is with him the Republican party started.
It's almost too juicy.
Like the firework display over Glasgow going viral a similar way, It looks like something they would do. It is close enough to be believable. But it didn't happen.
The scissor forklift video in Ace's sidebar is an amusing prank. Comedian. His name is on the video and his website makes that clear.
The Party of Slavery and Jim Crow becomes the Party of Stoopid.
That's so freaking painful I've got nothing to say.
This is not what it seems at first glance -- the university released a statement about the plaque on November 4:
"The Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies at Northeastern Illinois University is housed in a building that bears historical significance. From time to time, the integrity of a plaque honoring the memory of Abraham Lincoln is questioned. Installed in the building for its opening in 1905, the plaque includes an inscription of the word 'democrat' following Abraham Lincoln's name. According to building archives, the word democrat was used because Lincoln was an advocate for democracy—the political or social equality of all people. The word was not chosen to reflect a political affiliation."
