The US Senate will soon vote to authorize a war on behalf of al Qaeda...

...and they'll probably take this vote, to become al Qaeda's air force, on...September 11.

Rest assured, however, that our new allies are only partly al Qaeda-affiliated terrorists.  Most of them are pro-western freedom fighters -- fully eighty percent of them, according to one expert cited by Secretary of State Kerry.

That expert:

Our specials include jalopeno poppers and the Mondo Margarita!
Of course, there's no need to introduce this renowned expert on middle-eastern affairs -- this is Elizabeth O'Bagy.  And no, that's not a very old photograph -- it's quite recent.  She's 26 years old.

Just four short years ago, she was working second shift at Applebee's while finishing up her bachelor's in political science.  Now she's the most trusted adviser to the highest echelons of our government with respect to the most volatile and complex region on earth.  Eight years ago, she was struggling with a book report on To Kill a Mockingbird for senior AP English literature; now she's writing policy papers that go right to the president's desk.

Rest assured that she's eminently qualified, however:  The young Ms. O'Bagy is a senior analyst at the Institute for the Study of War.  The junior analyst?  This guy:
Setting aside for the moment the wisdom of investing faith in the counsel of someone who considers Soundgarden to be "classic rock" and still receives monthly shipments from Proactive, it's been suggested by some that her impartiality might be in question, merely because she's on the Syrian opposition's payroll:
But in addition to her work for the Institute for the Study of War, O’Bagy is also the political director for the Syrian Emergency Task Force (SETF), a group that advocates within the United States for Syria’s rebels...
But wait, she has a perfectly reasonable explanation:
In speaking with TheDC, O’Bagy regularly insisted that she was not a salaried employee of SETF, but a paid contractor acting in an advisory role.
So it's not as though she actually works for them -- she just performs services for them, and in return, they pay her money.  As a private contractor.  So no harm, no foul.

I was concerned about whether I was being fair to O'bagy, so I tried to find a bio on her, some sort of background.  I couldn't find a biography, because she doesn't have one, because she's fucking 26 years old.  I did, however, find this video, that I think will help some of you reverse-ageist assholes in dealing with O'bagy's generation as they lord over us from their exalted seats of enormous influence:

Did Elizabeth O'Bagy start out as an intern?

That "Millennials" video is hysterical. I saw it a month or so ago.

Was Snowden a Millennial?

Why does this sound familiar to me?

Got to do a little research.

I've seen this play before.

Wow, just effing wow.

And Kerry and McCain urged us all to read her in the Wall Street Journal. Which I did, and fell for it.

Shades of Chalabi, although one still wet-behind-the-ears.

Found it. In The Loop (2009) Transcript ...

- Assistant Secretary of State, hi.
- Brad, how are you?

- Chad.
- Yep, yep, yep, exactly.

- Can I...?
- Yep, you betcha, OK.

Hey, listen, the war committee.

What you have to do is you've got to look for the ten dullest-named committees happening out of the executive branch.

Because Linton is not going to call it the "Big Horrible War Committee".

He's gonna hide it behind a name like "Diverse Strategy".

Something so dull you're just gonna want to self-harm.

Get me General Miller at the Pentagon, please.

My teeth hurt.

My teeth hurt like hell.

I'm sick of hearing about the teeth, frankly.

Hi, yeah.
I'm checking the status on a paper

that was circulated by a staffer here.

It's called...

"Post War Planning. Parameters,
lmplications and Possibilities".

This is the one by...

this is the one by Liza Weld, right?

"PWIP PIP"?

Oh, God, it already has an acronym.

You know another acronym? DOA...

Your career.

My golly, I can't see why anyone would choose to work in a glass office, huh?

Glass offices, in my opinion, are for perverts.

I could request the glass be frosted.

Frosting is on cakes, huh?

Now, what else happened in London?

Ah, generally positive, two glitches...

Really, what?

Karen flagged a report by one of her staffers.

She's obviously trying to use it as some kind of roadblock. It's called PWIP PIP.

- PWIP what?
- PWIP PIP.

What is it, a report on bird calls?
What does it even stand for?

I can't recall. It's factish.
Intel for and against intervention.

We have all the facts on this we need. We don't need any more facts.

In the land of truth, my friend...
...the man with one fact is the king.

You said there was something else,
what is that?

In the meeting with the Foreign Office, the committee was accidentally and briefly alluded to.

Which committee?

The... The war committee, sir.

All right,

It pays to watch movie now and then... if I say so myself.

"factish Intel for and against intervention."

Apparently, there is a rule somewhere that says they have to have a paper/ white paper/ dossier/ to go with the sarin gas videos.

They needed to counter the videos and pictures of Kerry and the long list of American big wigs shaking hands with the next Adolf Hitler... or something.

The most frightning thing about this story is the simple fact that she's twice as smart as the combo/tag team of Obama-Biden.

Watching old videos and news reporting on both of them, show the two constantly ripping Bush and Romney, only to be doing what they said they feared about the Repubs.

They need to be constantly reminded of those statements that they made.

The which?

I guess all the NSA guys were off spying on Americans.

His Awesomeness will deign to address us Tuesday.

Be interesting to see what happens if the house says, "No".

And he decides to go ahead anyway.

BTW, there may be a battalion of Chinese marines on its way to join those Russian ships off Syria.

What could go wrong?

September 11th, a date which lives on in infamy.

September 11, 2001 - I don't have to tell anyone what happened on that date.

September 11, 2012 - US compound in Benghazi Libya attacked, four Americans killed including the US Ambassador to Libya, President disappears for a few hours, later has his people blame the attack on a video, obscuring the fact that it was a coordinated attack.

September 11, 2012 - Dzhokar Tsarnaev sworn in as US citizen, a few months before bombing the Boston Marathon with pressure cookers.

September 11, 1965 - birth date of future Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

OK, I took O'Bagy seriously enough to read one of her pieces in FP: Link.

The gist: Syrian opposition forces are a good thing precisely because they are organized into cells; "they are like a hydra." I kid you not. No distinguishing differences in ideology from other worldwide terror cells. They are just a "good thing." Does this kid even remember 9/11?

She thinks it's where you go to get a smoothie.

Icepick said...

She was 14 when 9/11 happened. Presumably she can remember, but perhaps she was too busy catching on fire while perfecting her twerk.

...

The American public is something like 4-1 against this war. Various members of the House of Representatives are reporting the calls running AGAINST at a much higher rate than that.

So here's what's going to happen.

Obama is going to speak on September the 10th about the need to make him look butch.

Obama's campaign organization will have his committed worshipers FLOOD the Senate phone lines right after his speech ends, to make certain that the Senators have cover.

And then, on September 11, 2013, the United States Senate will agree to go to war on the side of al Qaeda, solely so that the President won't look like the colossal horse's ass that he is.

Lem Vibe Bandit said...

Obama says he wants to "maintain the international norms."

I guess we are supposed to make lemonade with that.

Icepick said...

I'm willing to bet that when we find out more about her, she's going to be the type of person that the CIA likes to recruit at young ages, as per Steve Sailer. In fact, I wouldn't be shocked if I clicked over to iSteve and saw a post to that effect now.

Oh man! You should check out some of the other folks at the ISW. This guy looks like he wants to be an evil henchman in a Bond movie. And I have to say he's overacting in the picture. But his bio is more extensive than Ms. O'bagy's.

Way too late for that.

PS The Senate is run by the Demos, but House is looking like another matter and they have to go along also.

As I say, be interesting to see what happens if they say, "No", and he goes ahead in defiance of just about everybody.
