I saw a similar thing in a doctor's office and thought, eh, lazy, but then I notice their neon tetra is the largest I've seen. When I mentioned that the receptionist said, "Everybody says that."
I used to have a large aquarium, but as part of my continuing and mostly unsuccessful effort to simplify my life, I gave it all away. When I had it, I would use one of those automatic feeders when I went on vacation, and I never lost a fish, even when gone for a 2 week stretch. The fish even petitioned me in writing to quit my fishmending and leave it to the device, but that would put my pension at risk, so I shredded their soggy-ass petition.
I've read that it's okay to leave fish for two weeks without feeding. Also, that too much food will lead to 'fatty degeneration.' Because of that, I think that looks like too much food at one time.

Before there were filters we scrubbed the water by hand.

lol depending on the size of the fish.
Show us your aquarium, Chip!
They won't starve anyway - at least not all of them. ~ Darwin
