Helicopter rescue spin

There's a billion copies of this clip on YouTube all slathered up with news overlays.

Possibly a thousand copies. A LOT of copies.

Because people are imagining being in the basket.

A long time ago I'd be thinking, oh man, I want a ride like that. A million times better than any park ride, possibly ten times better. But now I'm thinking, good Lord, all your blood will be spun to your head and your toes. You'd end up with throbbing head and toe aches. A gigantic swollen throbbing head and elephantine toes bursting through your shoes. And the semicircular canals in your ears sloshed for a week, you wouldn't be able to stand up without crashing into the walls.

This is Australia. I think.

He finally did what I said to myself right away - fly off. Downwash won't even reach the stretcher once the helicopter is moving. The blades serve as a regular wing once it's moving.

Boooo. Unnecessary clickbait. One of those viral things that no one really needs to see. Awful for someone already in terrible condition and needing rescue. It's not like a ride at Disney because it goes on for a lot longer and with more intensity. It's cruelly funny but why signal a cruel streak.

I witnessed a beach rescue in Rio over 30 years ago. A helicopter was sent out and they dropped a harness to the swimmer. They never reeled him into the aircraft. They flew off over the mountains with him dangling way below. Maybe it was to serve as a lesson to the swimmer to not do that again.
