Alexander Gerst provides time lapse footage of earth from the International Space Station

Gerst is with the European Space Agency working on experiments on the ISS. He is joined by US and Russian people. (I hesitate to write astronauts because I don't know what they call themselves.) They've been together for a month. More information, if you'd like to have it, at Space.com.

Gerst's Twitter account is also interesting.

In the old Orbiter Program Office meeting room, there was this photo I wish I could have found in the digital archives. I think it was likely cropped. It shows an EVA (spacewalker or spacewalker if you prefer) standing on a portable foot restraint. You're looking over their shoulder from the back. The result is the appearance of an Astronaut about to take a high dive into the Earth. And then you think about it for a moment, and the reality is that's exactly the position the Astronaut is in. If they unclipped, and then kicked out of the portable foot restraint; they would be diving into the Earth.

BTW, NASA's photo archive is free and online. The only real negative is the positive of it; they provide everything, so you have to get through lots of photos that have less to do with space and so much more about working at NASA on the ground.

What did I notice--after the marblelike beauty? How young Gerst looked, reminding me of sonsM. Turns out he was born the year I graduated from college, four years after the last Apollo mission. Which gave me another perspective on time passing and the world turning
