142 years ago.......They Died with Their Boots On

Imagine that?

It was only 142 years ago. I mean there are people old enough to have been there like Ruth Bader Ginsberg or Larry King.

The Battle of the Little Bighorn is one of the historical battles that is most often depicted on televison. There is a whole cottage industry about Custer and the 7th. Often poorly and always a revisionist history.

I just know that I often feel like Autie. Surrounded with no help in sight.

I am going to raise a glass to the men of the 7th tonight. Ok it is going to be a glass of Metamucil but still. Heres to them!

Yesterday, today, and tomorrow are the anniversaries of Gettysburg. Today was the Battle of Little Big Top. I love the movie with Jeff Daniels as Chamberlain. One of my favorite scenes of all times was the rebel charge up the hill.

Don't forget yesterday was Olivia De Havilland's birthday. A great lady 102 years young and still going strong. She sued the producers of the God awful thing about her old pal, Bette Davis, for all their lies.

She was a dazzling Libbie Custer, investing the part with life and joy. And that good-bye scene is how you make movies.

After reading several books on Custer, it was edifying to visit the battlefield a few years back.

@ndspinelli: I spent a week at Yellowstone with my parents in the ‘80’s. It’s a pity we didn’t get to LBH at the time. I’ll probably never get back there. Wish I could.

Somebody ran a piece on Olivia De Havilland's 102nd birthday with an interesting twist.

Last year, she was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire.

Whatever that entails.

De Havilland has lived in Paris since 1956! In the mid-twentieth century that was the dream place to locate to. Nowadays they all want to escape to New Zealand.

She went there several years earlier to do a movie and ended up marrying the man who came to the plane to interview her.
