"Where’s Joe Biden?"

"When President Barack Obama laid out his strategy for the current debt-limit fight in a private meeting with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid this past summer, Reid stipulated one condition: No Joe Biden."

And while Biden attended the White House dog-and-pony show meeting last week with congressional leaders, Reid has effectively barred him from the backrooms, according to sources familiar with the situation."

Biden was once Democrats’ deal-maker-in-chief, designing budget pacts with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in the summer of 2011 and New Year’s Eve 2013."
Both Reid’s office and the vice president’s office declined to comment for this story.
But the Reid-Biden tension stands out because the two men spent so much time together in the Senate — 22 years — and because they’re on the same team. It is also yet another example of how deteriorating relationships among the nation’s top political leaders are making it harder to game out a solution to the fiscal crisis."

Hillary would be smart to keep Biden in his role for the same reason Obama had him. He's insurance from various methods of removals. Even Osama bin Laden recognized this and told his operatives not to ever attack Biden. Even our enemies realize the threat Biden would have on the US if he was ever President, except our enemies want it to happen.

It is because Harry Reid is a Mormon and he can't even get along with a fake Catholic like Biden.

Another reason to prove why we dodged a bullet by not elect Mitt Romney.

I'm reading tweets where the republican senators and congressman leading the fight are being called "the rebels".

Aren't rebels hopeless romantics?

Is this a sign that the white house, Harry Reid are loosing hold of the narrative?

I thought women liked rebels.

"Aren't rebels hopeless romantics?"

Only when they lose, or die young enough to not get tied to the results of the successful revolutions.

Great post Lem, I linked it with an image.

Reid has been vigilant in ensuring that Biden isn’t in a position to fold. When Reid was leaving the White House meeting with congressional leaders last week, his eyes grew wide, according to a source present.
He was informed that Biden had exited with McConnell.

In the movie Rebel w/o a Cause the rebel jumped off the car to save himself at the last minute.

"The first man who jumps is a chicken"

Harry Reid doesn't want Joe jumping off the car too early in the name of the democrats. Reid is sure the republicans are going to jump off first, and he doesn't want Joe to ruin that for them.

What kind of people can bad mouth one another like these guys do and then smile, shake hands, and stand side by side smiling. Some kind of pod people or strangle dysfunctional types.

Fuck it! Punch somebody, would you? I would go for Pelosi, that face would crack like a clay pot.

Lem the artificially intelligent said...

Obama has gone to great lengths to maintain his image of the outsider fighting for the little guy.

By repeating over and over that "Obama wont negotiate", Boehner is undermining Obamas image of intercessor, above the fray.

The longer the shutdown goes the longer the incomprehensible posturing of Obama as both president and outsider is exposed.

It begs the question. Have the democrats really thought this through?

Is cementing the idea that the republicans are the bad guys, worth the risk of having the bad guys act out the scene by letting the default happen?

bagoh20 said...

"It begs the question. Have the democrats really thought this through?"

I don't think they need to. They always win the optics, since so many in the Press want them to. Understandably, they assume that no matter how bad things go, they still win. They have a point there. It may fail eventually, but if you are betting, where will your money go.

There's that war on women again....

bagoh20 said...

It's not a war - it's a peace keeping operation.

Lem the artificially intelligent said...

By doing the nations finances this way, instead of the budgeting process that would have avoided it, the democrats have sought the advantages of the narrative to be able to dictate their will.

That only works if you can guarantee the weakness of the other side. That's why it was crucial that Biden stay away. Biden might get the idea that leadership by negotiation is better than the alternative.

Yea, but what if Boehner has figured out how to break the camera.

What if Boehner starts to look like an underdog?

Is that too fantastic?

Lem the artificially intelligent said...

In extreme circumstances, which Obama wants to be make appear as if we are at the brink of, hostages have been known to empathize with their captors, given enough time.

You see? that's the problem with narrative.

It can be smashed.

Narrative serves reality, not the other way around.

Lem the artificially intelligent said...

Boehner has surprised me.

bagoh20 said...

The Dems have started getting some blame, and that really is the secret here. Once they get blamed, Boehner will make some progress. It's a long shot, but it is starting to shift that way a little.

It never stops amazing me what the President can get away with. I mean look at these blatant decisions to hurt people, veterans, kids, everybody for the obvious purpose of making it hurt more than it naturally would. Taking active expensive actions to hurt people, while claiming it's because there is no money - a clear and embarrassing lie. I can't believe that isn't taken up by anyone other than Fox.

I'm continuously amazed at how deep in the tank news organizations are. I'd be embarrassed enough if I worked for one to quit, except I'd already have unconditional love for Obama, or I wouldn't have gotten the job.

Lem the artificially intelligent said...

The Dems have started getting some blame...

Politically, if the ultimate goal of the democrats is to regain the house, by blaming the republicans for the shutdown... yadi yada, the alternative facing republicans, if a survival instinct is one they still posses, is to make a stand here.

Accommodation and negotiation is not a mountain democrats can easily dynamite on their way to victory.

Historically, second terms have concerned a president's agenda with issues of legacy.

While as president Obama has mostly controlled the narrative emanating from the press, if not evinced from them by means of his shared beliefs with them, by sheer intimidation.

Historians will not be subject to politically manipulated winds.

This battle will say a lot about where Obama's heart is.

Are fleeting future political victories so important as to risk the welfare of the nation that elected you twice?

That was the kind of thing that was said to hold back presidents, kept them in check.

Johnson and Nixon struggled with the idea that they would be the first president to loose a war.

Is taking over the house for Nancy Pelosi worth being the first US president to preside over the first financial default in history?

The seeming willingness alone should say something about where Obamas priorities as president rests.

Is Obama capable of putting the well being of the nation above party?

Paraphrasing Woodward, 'if an economic calamity happens, history books will name the president under which it happened, not the speaker of the house'

Lem the artificially intelligent said...

I'm not much of a pundit.

But, from where I sit, Boehner has Obama by the balls.

Lem the artificially intelligent said...

If Obama keeps this up, history will show that while he could handle a dispute between a policeman and a college professor, more weighty matters of state proved beyond his powers of persuasion/understanding.

Lem the artificially intelligent said...

Obama is do to talk soon.

If they stick to the movie scripts, Obama is not going to appear as if he is giving an inch.

Look for Obama to continue to ask the rebels to give themselves up the sooner the more accommodating and merciful he might be able to be with them. But it is entirely up to them.

Lem the artificially intelligent said...

Obama wont negotiate with the rebels while they still hold on to their arms.

They have to disarm first.

Lem the artificially intelligent said...

Just like I said.

Lem the artificially intelligent said...

OMG, he says one thing in one sentence and contradicts it the next.

Lem the artificially intelligent said...

Obama is trying to explain how debt ceiling works.

Its a naming problem.

It shouldn't be called the debt ceiling.

Lem the artificially intelligent said...

Obama disconnects his presidency from the obligations conferred to it by saying the republicans are holding me hostage.

It's nonsensical, farcical pap.

The mortgage example he brings up trying to spin a scenario where its up to the republicans to "pay the bills"

Republicans and democrats live under the same roof he is talking about. Its no more up to one partner, no matter how rebellious, to keep the house's business in order than it is to the other.

They are both responsible!

Does this shit really fly with people?

Icepick said...

Historians will not be subject to politically manipulated winds.

Oh, boy, are you overly optimistic!

Icepick said...

Lem, live-blogging the President's bloviations! You should have made this its own post.

Icepick said...

Does this shit really fly with people?

If God didn't want turds to fly, He wouldn't have given people explosive bowel syndrome.

Icepick said...

And we should always remember that, for all of his extremist rhetoric now, the President was on the opposite side of the debt ceiling argument just a few years ago. He's basically saying that anyone that held the positions he used to hold shouldn't be allowed to have any authority in the government.

Lem the artificially intelligent said...

Banks, or China for that matter, don't say, you know, we recognize that it was the democrat partner that was willing to pay the bills and the other one, the bad republican, not.

So, we are going to evict the irresponsible republican, and keep the democrat. We are not going to hold the democrat responsible.

It's ridiculous.

Lem the artificially intelligent said...

If I was in there I would ask...

Mr. president, with all do respect... aren't both republicans and democrats living under the same roof of the house you are claiming is in risk of default?

Let me see if I can tweet that.

Lem the artificially intelligent said...
