"Parrot taken into custody by police in Brazil for trying to warn drug dealers of raid"

A parrot who warned two alleged drug dealers in Brazil that police were coming was taken into custody after it almost foiled an undercover drug raid, authorities said.

When the green-and-white bird spotted officers Tuesday at its owners' Teresina home, the parrot squawked "Mama, Police!" in Portuguese, according to the local outlet Oliberal.com.

Despite the bird's efforts to tip off the owners, a man and woman were arrested, the outlet reports. Drugs, including crack and marijuana, were also found at the property as well as large amounts of money.

The parrot, who police did not name, has reportedly continued to show its loyalty to its owners and is refusing to sing like a canary. The Guardian reports that a local journalist said the bird won't talk to officers and "hasn't made a sound."

The parrot, who authorities believe was trained to spot police cars, is being kept at a zoo in Teresina, Oliberal.com reports.

"man flees Surf City police by swimming a mile out to sea, pursued by shark"

Via Drudge:  A traffic stop turned into a multi-agency sea rescue after a suspect misguidedly attempted to elude police officers by taking to the open ocean.

On Wednesday afternoon at around 4:15 p.m., Surf City police officers stopped 20-year-old Zachary Kingsbury. Police spotted contraband in Kingsbury’s vehicle and asked the young man, who hails from Linwood, Washington, to step out of his vehicle. Shortly after police began interviewing him, Kingsburgy took off on foot, heading towards the beach.

As Surf City Police watched, Kingsbury continued running into the ocean and began swimming away from shore. Police deployed a drone and were able to track Kingsbury for some time.

At one point in the drone footage, provided by the Surf City Police Department, a shark can clearly be seen following Kingsbury through the water. At this point, Kingsbury had been swimming for nearly an hour an was more than 4,000 feet – the better part of a mile – off the coast.

That’s when, according to Surf City Police Chief Ron Shanadan, the chase “became a rescue operation.”

"Criminals do some crazy things," Smith said. "They record themselves committing crimes, and we thank them for it. We encourage the criminals to continue to record your acts, and encourage citizens to continue to send us information when you find the criminal wrongdoing on camera and on social media."

"Fla. teen ‘Dr. Love’ arrested at Virginia car dealership"

"The Florida teenager arrested in February accused of pretending to be a doctor and stealing money from an elderly patient was arrested again Friday at a Virginia car dealership."
Employees at Kargar Motors Car Dealership in Stafford grew suspicious when 19-year-old Malachi Love-Robinson and an elderly woman attempted to buy a Jaguar for $35,000.

Workers Googled Love-Robinson's name after he completed an online credit application and listed the woman as a co-signer on the credit application.

After they learned more about Love-Robinson's past -- those workers called investigators.

"The employees became more concerned because they felt Love-Robinson may be trying to fraudulently obtain the Jaguar and stealing money from the elderly female he claimed to be his mother," Stafford Sheriff's Office spokesman Major Don Lenhart said. "The dealership told Mr. Love-Robinson that they would call him when his credit application was approved and he left the dealership." (more)

"Driver’s crash course damages Springfield Safeway, police say"

"Noella Yvonne Fay, 43, of Glenwood had been at the store about 4 p.m. Tuesday and tried to buy $2,200 worth of gift cards, according to Springfield police. Safeway sells gift cards that can be used at a variety of retailers, including Starbucks, Nordstrom and iTunes."
But when Fay’s check bounced, she was refused the sale, which prompted her to become angry and leave the store, police said.

At 12:23 a.m. Wednesday, Fay allegedly returned and parked her sport utility vehicle in front of the store’s west doors, blocking the entrance. She was yelling about wanting her gift cards, police said.

A Safeway employee told Fay she needed to move her vehicle before they could discuss the gift card issue any further. It was then, police said, that Fay drove her sport utility vehicle through the west side of the store.

Fay drove the Tahoe down an aisle almost to the back of the store, police said. She then allegedly reversed the SUV back to the front of the aisle, turned the car toward the deli and drove between the aisle ends and the checkstands. She then drove the vehicle out the east doors and into the parking lot, police said.

She last was seen driving southbound on Pioneer Parkway West. (more)

"Needle exchange director arrested for having needles"

The story reads like a series of unfortunate events...
Cincinnati.com:  Norwood police Chief William Kramer said officers found Harrison "passed out in the driver's seat with her car still in drive."
A search of Harrison's vehicle also revealed a bottle cap and a piece of burnt cotton, and both a capped and an uncapped syringe, police stated in their report.
The white powder residue, which Harrison dropped to the ground after emerging from her vehicle, will be tested, Kramer said. Drug possession charges are possible pending the outcome of those tests, Kramer said.
"There was no bag with white powder in it," Harrison told The Enquirer. "If they tested anything in the car, it’s going to have heroin in it because of (my) work."
Harrison's car was filled with thousands of syringes in plastic bio-hazard bins, but no actual drugs, she said. Harrison also said she conversed politely with police, offered to show them her official identification cards, but ultimately was arrested and jailed.
"I have hypoglycemia so I get lightheaded. I pulled over to the side of the road," ate a peanut butter-honey bar and waited for it to take effect, Harrison told The Enquirer after her hearing. "The next thing I know there's cops everywhere."
CEP, as it's called, is a mobile exchange site that generally operates from a van that clearly identifies its purpose. But the van occasionally has mechanical problems, so staff work from their own vehicles so as not to interrupt services.
That's why, according to Harrison, there were needles and other supplies in her vehicle.
"If I'm carrying 1,500 needles and giant sharp (needle) containers, I'm obviously running a program," Harrison said. "There was no reason for them to take me to jail... For them, maybe it was a better-safe-than-sorry situation, but I think they should have thought about it a little longer."

"A black social worker called 911 because she was afraid of a cop"

"A violent arrest followed."
Nervous and distraught, Earledreka White did the only thing she thought she could to allay her fears after being stopped by a police officer in Houston: She called 911 to report the traffic stop and asked for police backup.

White’s voice was so shaky that she stuttered when trying to give the emergency dispatcher their location, a medical plaza parking lot outside the Loop 610 near downtown Houston. Next to her stood an officer with Houston’s Metro Police Department, waiting while she made the call in the doorway of her sedan.
“He’s saying I crossed over a solid line and I did not,” White told the dispatcher. “I got out of the car to ask him what the offense was. He raised his voice at me and threatened to arrest me. So I’m really confused. And I would like another officer to come out here.
“My heart is racing. I’m really afraid.”
Less than two minutes later, the officer reached for his handcuffs, then for White’s left wrist.
Soon, the two began shouting as White begged him to stop.
After a violent struggle, the 28-year-old African American woman was arrested, sobbing.
The charge? Resisting arrest. (more)

Man rents car, sold it on a e-commerce site, then steals it back the same night

Hindustan Times:  Mintoo Kumar, 28, a BCA graduate, took a car on rent, sold it on a e-commerce site posing as the car owner and then stole it the same night from its new owner.

Last week, police received information at the Dwarka Sector 23 station about a car theft. On checking the car’s record, the police were perplexed because the details given by the owner belonged to a different Mahindra XUV car of the same colour belonging to a Delhi resident.

Explaining the sequence of events, an officer said,“The owner was not lying. He had bought the car through the site.It was stolen the same night. Initially we thought he was sold a stolen vehicle but later we suspected the seller may have stolen the same car from the new owner. We registered a case and began probe ,” said an officer.

Police sources said that during investigation, an officer received a tip-off about the suspect who was in Dwarka to sell off the vehicle again. Mintoo was nabbed by a team of officers.

Mintoo’s modus operandi surprised even the most experienced of police officers. Mintoo told the police that he had stolen the car around seven hours after selling it. He said he ran a massage parlour cum spa in Faridabad was running into losses.

"Chicago man... sues city for $15M, arrested on murder charges minutes after announcement"

Daily News:  In a press conference at his attorney’s office on Wednesday, Dominiq Greer was set to take on Chicago in an excessive force lawsuit from a chase in which cops shot him seven times in a matter of seconds.

Greer fled from officers on July 4, 2014, and ran into an alley, where he tried tossing a pistol onto a roof when he stumbled and fell, his lawyer, Eugene Hollander told the Daily News.
Chicago officers shot him in his right arm, right leg and foot, and when Greer got back up, fired four more times in his right arm, left arm, chest and back.

Greer looked at the officers after suffering seven gunshots, and asked, “Why are you shooting at me?”
“As a result of his injuries, my client, who is a father to a 5-year-old boy, will have permanent and lifelong injuries. He cannot pick up and hold his son,” Hollander said in a statement.

Minutes after showing the surveillance footage and announcing the $15 million lawsuit, Chicago police arrested Greer walking out of his lawyer’s office.

“We’re just investigating it like any other case”

"Filmed having sex with boys in school bathroom: The disturbing story of a Florida human trafficking survivor"
The 15-year-old girl had only been a student at South Fort Myers High School in Fort Myers, Fla., for two weeks when she went looking for her new crush in the boys’ bathroom.
She’d spent the prior two years in and out of treatment facilities, her mother told NBC2, learning to cope with the horrors of the sex slave industry into which she had been trafficked at age 13.
So when she tracked down her crush after school last week and he asked her for sex, her mother said through a victims’ advocate, the young teen agreed.
But then word got out, and someone started filming, and over the next hour as many as 25 male students were shown on school surveillance footage passing through the bathroom, the News-Press reported. Multiple boys had sex with the girl, she later told authorities, during a time period after school when students involved in extracurricular activities participate in a study hall. Sixteen students were disciplined by the Lee County school district, the newspaper reported.
Though the sex was described as consensual, according to the involved parties, the girl was not legally old enough to give consent. And because of her troubled background, the teen’s mother and advocates have said this behavior, called promiscuous by many outraged community members, is actually quite common among sex-trafficking survivors.
