On Collars & Stakes; Bites & Ties

These two from Powerline's pics of the week Hunter or Hunted edition made me smile. I've been hoping to find a good take on the biting Commander since the story came out, and then found and enjoyed this collaring of the situation along with the cartoon drawing of donkeys showing their teeth while the red tie and tongue continue to flap in the flames.

Is It Time Yet?

OK, we have DiFi.

And Cocaine Mitch.

So now it's bipartisan. Or Unipartisan, if you prefer.

We already know about Pelosi Galore and Brandon. And RBG.

How many more members of Congress have to warn us about Guam tipping over or making a mess of themselves and how many more SCROTUS Justices have to fall asleep in front of everybody?

Good news is people are seeing all this, if only on the Interwebz.

I have the feeling people are getting ready to go all thermonucular on term limits at the Federal level

American Marines in the Revolutionary War

I have been joining lectures put on by Fraunces Tavern Museum these past few months. As you might remember we got married there twenty years ago and I became a member of the Museum. Each month or so they have a Web seminar on a historical topic.

This month is the creation of the Marines during the Revolutionary War. It is only an hour long but it is usually guite interesting.

I bet Ed would really enjoy it. You should get on the mailing list. It's all free and well worth your time.

Just no Sinead O'Conner singing in the background.

You never know where someone will show up.....

I was surprised to find out that Sinead O'Conner sang the opening title song in this season of "Outlander." Every year they have a different artist sing the haunting melody that opens the romance story that has become very popular.

My wife enjoys this show and I have to admit that I like it too. It is soapy and a dumb romance, but the production design is very good, and the scenery can't be beat. The current season is quite enjoyable as it covers a period in American History that is almost never depicted in the media. It takes place in upstate New York at Fort Ticonderoga and the Battle of Saratoga. A battle that I think was decisive in the American Revolution. What is interesting is that the victory was won not by Washington but by Horatio Gates. Actually, the battle was the direct result of the actions of one of the best American Generals of the Revolutionary War.

Benedict Arnold.

I wonder if Arnold will be depicted and if it will be fair and give him his just due for his heroism before he turned traitor. The show already pleasantly surprised me by depicting Daniel Morgan who is almost never shown in movies about the Revolution. I just really enjoy this neglect piece of history being shown on my TV.

The show has it's over the top antics so you can deal with the soapy elements to enjoy the history.

The one thing that pisses me off is the pristine uniforms of the soldiers in the show. I wish they would be more accurate but what can you do. At least they get the Mohawk costumes right for once.

It is a strange but fitting tribute that Sinead is singing the title song.

Back to the Future

A funny thing happened on our way from Auschwitz. The Davos crowd is pushing something new in its requirements for reducing climate change.

You've heard how they want to cut the world's population by 7/8, have the survivors eat bugs, living in SMART cities (Dachau with closed circuit TVs), and be their slaves for all eternity.

Apparently, the human race doesn't like the idea, so they need something.

It's a justification for cutting the world's population by 7/8.

We've heard it from Chlamydia and from Lurch. Reduce population by not growing as much food. The Nips did it to China and Uncle Joe did it to Russia (so hard, in fact, that he had to excuse the drop in population by claiming it was the Narzis).

If history teaches us something, it's that when people like this start proposing things like this (Hitler's just exaggerating, he couldn't kill every Jew) , you'd better take it seriously.

OTOH, it just may turn out we're smarter than they think.

You'll Never Walk Alone

What's up Doc?

You might have noticed that I have not been around here for a while.

I have been out of commission because I had a new pacemaker put in.

Everything went great and I am on the mend. I am three weeks in to  a six week recovery.

All is progressing as well as it could.

There is peace in the valley.

It's On!

Letters to the Network

This little rant (or gloat, take your pick) was inspired by a little piece lifted from Your Tango. Given we're seeing what looks like another piece of the 50 year itch, I though it might be worth cogitating the possibilities.

Consider how fed up the grandchildren of the 60s (actually late 60s) are getting with what the Lefty Boomers have given them. A lot of women worked inside the home and loved it. Thanks to the feminuts, they feel obliged to get a job.

And they hate it.

Paradise isn't what it's cracked up to be, as the Blexit crowd has also learned. 50 years on and things are worse, instead of better. The best President of their lives has been Donald Trump and inner city crime and corruption has become unbearable under exclusive Democrat rule (as opposed to governance), not to mention inflation and unemployment.

For women, the rise of the gender crowd, elbowing them out of women's sports with the enthusiastic encouragement of the Lefty establishment, seems to have become the last straw. Add to that, Red flight from Blue states, near universal rejection of the latest fronts in the culture war (Bud Light, anyone?), and the complete "So What?" in reaction to the writers/actors strike and we may be looking at a real turning point.

As the old bumper sticker said, Give Her All The Equality She Demands - Until She Screams For Mercy.

On Fits & Conclusions

Immersed myself in an art workshop this past week, held at a Franciscan Retreat Center.  It was wonderful to be away and apart for a time, removed from the ongoing drama of politics and wokeness to enter into the freedom and joy of focusing on personal creative expression in a peaceful setting.  With no Covid concerns in evidence, and most of the participants able to hold their differing political opinions in check, I felt like I'd stepped into another world.  Or maybe the eye of the hurricane.  Walking back into the swirl of Hunter's blow and his dad's bloviating, to face a wall of lies, distortions and theories that aren't a fit with my real world experience, is hard to do. I'm grateful for artists, cartoonists, writers, and thinkers with the courage, integrity, and fortitude to continue to stand strong and face things head on.
