“Below Deck Down Under” is the best one of the franchise

I am addicted to the "Below Deck" shows on Bravo. You know the format, right? Some rich douche rents a super Yacht to sail for a couple of days with a crew of drunks, morons and sexual predators. It's sort of a Gilligan's Island for retards. Each week the guests gets worse and worse with their demands for specialty parties and weird menu items. The crew fight and fuck and mess everything up.

It's a meataphor for life!

Now there is the original recipe Below Deck, Below Deck Mediterranean and Below Deck Sailing Yacht. However, the newest one "Below Deck Down Under" is far and away the best one so far.

Set in Australia the photography is just superb. Especially the underwater shots as all they do is go scuba diving and snorkeling. I mean there are no great castles like in the Med which does has some great shots of Croatia or the beauty of Spain that you see on Sailing Yacht.

The best part of the show is the crew. You have the best Captain of them all on this show. The dude is hands on and is not afraid to get his hands dirty. He is always jumping in and helping. Plus he will bust the balls of his crew in a good natured way. He was hazing this one hapless deckhand but when the guys toilet overflowed and he woke him up at 3 in the morning to quit he got up and helped him clean up the shit. The dude is awesome.

The stews are just alright. The foul mouthed Aussie slut who had been on Med previously is the chief stew and she really doesn't know what she is doing. She wants to be their friend and that doesn't work. I mean the relationship between the girls isn't toxic which is unusual for these shows because she has one problem child. This polish model type is the third stew. Her grasp of English is not that good and she doesn't know how to make most drinks or be able to carry stuff with out dropping them. She was a yoga instructor on her last ship so she was really hired for scenery purposes and to fuck up on camera. Which she does.

Still she does brighten up the scenery.

The show is on the Peacock network which I did not buy. I get it on the Cinema App which allows you to stream just about everything for free. Check if out if you can. If you are going to watch a Below Deck Franchise this is the one to see.

Eat your meat!

How do you like your steak?

I have a problem because I like number one and the wife likes number five. So I have to cook everything differently. The big problem is the cut of meat we pick. Sure if you have small steaks each can be cooked to order. Well done or properly rare. But if you get a big T-bone or a porterhouse you are cooking one piece of meat that you are sharing. So unless you cut it up it is almost impossible to cook it to everyone's taste.

Right now we are in prime grilling time which is the best for steak. I grill even in the snow but now it is very pleasant. I can sit on the porch and enjoy a beverage while cooking and enjoying the sunset. In the winter I use a grill pan to sear it and then put in the oven to cook to taste.

Red meat is great and much preferable to most other meats. It has a flavor all it's own. When you eat chicken you talk about the sauce. Not the taste. That is why everything is compared to chicken as to taste. Which means it has not taste.

Rare is the way I like it. Bloody red and flavorful. That is the only way for me.

Just add some salt and pepper to a properly grilled steak and we have a party.

How do you like your meat!

Brexit to Candelford.

Lately we have been having a lot of elder care issues that leave us exhausted, anxious, stressed and sort of depressed. So at the end of the night we like to catch a show that is mindless gentle entertainment. That takes us to another place and time divorced from our present reality. The best of those shows has proven to be “Larkrise to Candleford.” Available on Amazon Prime it tells the story of two villages in England at the end of the 19th Century. It is a very soothing program with a gentle tone that lets you relax and forget for a while as you get engrossed in the problems and travails of rural village life. Something totally different from our urbanized information culture.

But you know me. I have to make everything political. It is all a big meataphor.

The Ballad of Frank Crosetti

Do you know who Frank Crosetti was? He was the ultimate “True Yankee.”

He was the starting Yankee shortstop from 1932 until Phil Rizzuto came up in 1941. When Phil went into the army he got the job back until the war was over and then became a bench player. More importantly he became a Yankee coach being the third base coach for many, many years. They said he waved move than 10,000 runner’s home during his tenure at third base.

Most importantly he was the guardian of the Yankee tradition. He had seen how it was done since the days of Ruth and Gehrig through DiMaggio up to Mantle and the dog days after the 1964 collapse. He was the guy who said “Yankees don’t do that.” Smart alecks like Jim Bouton and Joe Pepitone hated him and mocked him to his face. He had very few friends. He was rigid and unlikable. He insisted on a pure inviolable code of conduct that you could not broach. You did it the “Yankee” way or you were a piece of crap.
