Great Moments in Ex-Met History

Colorado Rockies  and Ex-Mets shortstop Jose Reyes has been arrested and charged over allegedly assaulting his wife in a Hawaii hotel room, police said Tuesday. It appears the altercation ensued when Mrs. Reyes disagreed with a fan who claimed that Reyes was a better  shortstop than Derek Jeter. Mrs. Reyes replied that not only was Mr. Jeter a better shortstop but he was much better in bed.
The Maui County Police department said Reyes' and his wife were involved "in an argument that turned physical and resulted in injuries" at the Four Seasons Resort in Maui on the afternoon of Oct 31.
"Mrs. Reyes was treated by medics at the scene and later transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for further treatment," the force said in a statement Tuesday.
It said Reyes, 32, was arrested and charged with abuse of a family member. The player posted $1,000 bail and was released, according to police, who added that Reyes also was issued a warning citation not to have any contact with his wife for three days.
News of Reyes' arrest was first reported by NBC affiliate KHNL, which said the shortstop's wife suffered thigh, neck and wrist injuries. Sources told KHNL that Reyes' wife, Katherine, told officers the four-time All Stargrabbed her throat and shoved her into a glass balcony door at the luxury resort. The Four Seasons Maui declined to comment, citing guest privacy.

Great Moments in Mets History Volume Six: Dwight Gooden Rapes David Cones Ex-Girlfriend

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. April 9— The three New York Mets players who were accused of raping a woman here last year will not face criminal charges, a state prosecutor said today, because the case lacks corroborating evidence and comes down "to the word of a victim against that of three individuals."
Bruce H. Colton, the state attorney of the 19th Judicial Circuit of Florida, said the case against the players, Dwight Gooden, Daryl Boston and Vince Coleman, was not strong enough to bring before a jury with much likelihood of success.
Officials in Colton's office called the case "vulnerable" after a monthlong investigation by the police.
"After painstaking analysis and receiving input from the victim and the Port St. Lucie Police Department, we have concluded that our duty in this case is to decline prosecution," said David C. Morgan, assistant state attorney in charge of the St. Lucie County office.
He said the decision was "not easy," but that it would have been hard to prove that any sexual relations the woman may have had with the players was not consensual.
After learning of the prosecutors' decision, the three players offered muted statements of relief, but suggested there was little that could undo the damage the case had had on their reputations.
"We've all been hurt, especially me," said Mr. Gooden after the Mets played the Cardinals today in St. Louis. "I'm happy it's over. But I was confident throughout." [ Page B16. ]
Mr. Colton said the woman was informed of his decision on Tuesday. Her lawyer, Bernard Dempsey of Orlando, called her "deeply disappointed" and said she understood that the state had "a difficult task."
"On the other hand, my client is comfortable in the knowledge that she told the authorities the absolute truth," Mr. Dempsey said. He said that he and the woman would discuss "what other relief is available to her," a suggestion, possibly, that she was considering a civil suit.

Great Moments in Mets History Volume 2

New York Post October 14, 2015
A monstrous mother-and-son duo savagely beat a Mets fan over the weekend outside Dodger Stadium — in an attack so vicious the victim lost part of his skull, LA cops and the man’s friend said Tuesday.
The bloody beatdown unfolded around 10:30 p.m. local time Friday in the stadium parking lot, following the Mets’ 3-1 victory in Game 1 of the National League Division Series.
The unidentified Mets fan was listed in critical but stable condition at Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center.
“We believe that it is a son and a mother who are responsible for this assault,” LAPD chief Charlie Beck said. “We believe that the weapon used were hands and feet.”
Witnesses said the Mets fan was punched and then fell, hitting his head.
“I walked closer and there was a gentleman on the floor and [he] was bleeding profusely from the head,” witness Maria Cerecer told KABC-TV.
“We got free rally towels that night, so they [good Samaritans] were holding the rally towels to his head.”
There were no immediate arrests, and cops were asking for the public’s help to catch the thugs.
The bloodied Mets fan is from Bakersfield, Calif., which is about 100 miles north of Dodger Stadium, according to USA Today and KGET-TV.
A friend of the victim reportedly tweeted: “Embarrassed to be a Dodger fan as my Mets fan friend is in the hospital missing a piece of his skull after being hit by a lowlife.”
Beck stopped just short of connecting the victim’s Amazin’s allegiance to the bloody attack.
For the deciding Game 5 of the NDLS on Thursday back in LA, Beck promised that cops would be out in force at Dodger Stadium
“Particularly with the tensions between the teams right now and the fans obviously there has been a significant amount of rivalry here,” Beck said. “We will be a presence [at Game 5], there will be a sea of [LAPD] blue.”
Despite the beatdown the Mets have announced that they will not throw at the Dodger fans as they do not believe in retaliation.

Great Moments in Mets History Volume 1

May 14, 1975 Shea Stadium Press Conference
"Hello. I am M Donald Grant Chairmen of the Board of the New York Metropolitan Baseball Club. We are gathered here today so our right fielder Cleon Jones can apologize to the people of New York. As you know he was discovered nude in a van down by the river with a woman who was not his wife. He is here to apologize publicly to me, the ball club, his teammates and most importantly the fans. Oh yes his wife too. Cleon what do you have to say for yourself."
"I is sorry. Berry berry sorry."
"Is that all you have to say?"
"What else do you want boss? I's sorry."
"Well I guess that will have to do. What can you do with these types. They can't all be like Wayne Garret. Ok that's it. I have to get on the phone. I have some stupid trades to make. Plus I have to make pancakes for Mrs. Payson and shave her hobbit feet."
